Eldest's test was negative but their symptoms persist so we'll probably test again a little later. My niece and Eldest were born within days of each other and are close. Eldest and I are the most likely to end up with it, I think.

Anyway, it's frustrating.

In happier news, Eldest and I are now playing "The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles." Eldest got the final achievements on "Blue Prince" on Tuesday. We played two "Detective Grimoire" games. Now, we're doing this one.

(If you can't tell we're into puzzle/mystery games with a strong narrative.)

I actually just ordered even more tests because if we're going to start taking multiple tests in a day our stash of tests will go quickly.

Between a strong allergy season and wildfires, it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of people with milder cases are writing it off.

A family of 4 testing due to a COVID exposure goes through A LOT of tests.

Eldest just started to get a sore throat. First test was negative so they're taking a second from a different brand now--since the strongest symptom of the current strain is a razor blade sore throat, which niece also had.

Absolute worst part, imo, is the pressure from school administrators to "welcome our new overlords" by adopting AI. It's also happening in elite universities, to my utter bafflement & horror. Anyone who calls bullshit on AI is treated as if only ignorance could explain their perspective.

I’m a SPED teacher. Last year an admin told me, excitedly, that our AI thingy has an IEP generator. Not wanting to just blow off my boss I entered hypothetical data for a made up student into the system

It generated the most indefensible hot garbage. So yeah, no. No thanks

As a parent of two kids (now adults) who needed IEPs, this makes me livid.

I've worked through the IEP paperwork and it needs personalization because kids aren't cookie cutter replicas.

These kids often already get left behind and pushed aside. They deserve a human being making decisions.

No one should ever have the power to autonomously cancel hundreds of millions of dollars for scientific research based on some lies they saw on YouTube.

There's something so profoundly dystopian about the fact that there have been ongoing anti-ICE protests in LA and Portland, but the only way they've been able to be disseminated has been by calling them "LA 24/7 Music Festival" on TikTok???

Sometimes, I give someone the benefit of the doubt when they ping as "off" when they reply to me. If they reply again, I'll go check their profile. Typically, my instincts are right, but this exceeded expectations when combined with them being a Holocaust-denier.

My doubt needs to stop benefitting.

Just to give the TL;DR on this one:

More importantly, the government shouldn't be able to come into a classroom and say, "You violated one of God's commandments which we've placed on the wall here to remind you that religion determines your treatment and education."

In secular spaces, religion has no place, even some tenets apply.

You should not need to say to a second grader, "God" doesn't mean "God" and "adultery" doesn't mean "adultery" (and then need to explain adultery.) You should be able to point at the classroom rules and say, you weren't supposed to yell at your classmate because we're kind to everyone.

When you walk into a classroom, it's not uncommon to see things such as "Classroom rules" that will establish social rules like sharing, no bullying, and no fighting. This is appropriate and has no need for interpretation. And we're talking about young kids. They shouldn't need to interpret rules.

While I think it's valuable to be able to take what will benefit you from things you read and experience, not everyone will, and this media is not intended to be taken that way. When a government entity places "God's Commandments" in a secular space, their intentions must be taken into account too.
