I've implemented wave based combat and extended the scripting (more like event) system. It can trigger combat, create teleporters and turn them on/off when combat starts and ends.
It's surprisingly easy to use for how powerful it is.
(Ignore the slimes...)

A game of this style needs basic scripting as well, no doubt!
Might even add cutscenes later, but I'm not sure. Maybe if I expand this "scripting" system.

I've been working on more enemy sprites but since art is my biggest weakness it's been quite a struggle.
This is the result of a lot of iteration and frustration and I'm not happy with it, BUT it's still something!

Turns out the old upgrade system doesn't work. I'm currently rewriting it, which is mostly backend work.
I don't have much to show, but check this out!
Oh yeah, btw: Use Godots build in UI controls. They are really good! Don't try to roll your own, lmao.

Done with the prototype upgrade screen. I'm only going to show 3 revolver upgrades, though. I will not spoil the final revolver upgrade or any of the other weapon upgrades.

Very good point. I think this is as far as I'll go with it. I might even make it hide faster.
I'm trying to add variety without adding too many enemies, so I can get this game done... lol.
I'm trying to make combat a system the player can master through understanding and practice.
Got distracted by an idea for enemy health bars. They disappear after the enemy has not been hit for at least 6 seconds.
I feel like adding this information component to the combat could make it more interesting.

I've decided to add reloading again, after all. I feel like it adds tension to the combat. It's quick 'n painless, especially with upgrades! Which I'm going to work on next.
Weapon spinning is still in the game, BUT it will be up to ya'll to find out where! 😎

Feeling a bit bored implementing combat, BUT I came up with a new enemy anyway. Still not sure how to balance the bug/lizard aesthetic, but that's a job for future me.
Might work on upgrades next, have some variety - the spice of game dev!

I have added yet another enemy! Graphics are a bit rough, because I want to focus on getting the combat system done, so I can balance it.
Combat is the highest priority task right now and I gotta resist feature creeeep...!

I gave bullets a fixed life time, increased bullet damage and BOOM: combat is a lot more interesting already. Just because of these two changes!
Now I gotta find a way to reward aggressive players with loot.
Firing speed can be upgraded later with gold!

I have created a rather rough sketch of a new enemy. You can shoot its legs off, no problem. It's quite resilient!
Side note: I never expected how much work animation would be... wow! It's intense but also quite enjoyable and rewarding. I like it!

Nintendo DS aesthetic. Low poly, crunchy, chill. You grow your own tea plant over multiple weeks, like Nintendogs. Then you have to setup your own ceremonial process, you choose the actions, music, etc.
Then you drink it and the game starts over.
