1/ The UK's benefit sanctions regime is causing harm to those most vulnerable.
In a report published by PLP at the end of last year, drawing on casework from 100+ sanctioned people and analysis of DWP data, we found the #UniversalCredit sanctions system is failing on its own terms.
2/ Trust is undermined when access to justice is restricted, services are under-resourced, and new technologies lack accountability.
Rebuilding confidence means justice must be accessible, visible, and fair. Rights must be practical and enforceable, especially for the most marginalised.

1/3 Judicial review is meant to help people challenge unlawful decisions by public bodies.
But today, itโs simply too expensive for most. PLP research from 2019 found that an average case can cost ยฃ30,000+. Today it is likely to be more costly. This puts justice out of reach for many.
