been playing a bunch of Ridge Racer 1 lately (just beat all difficulties) and it's so delightful that this series was cool as fuck from day 1. Just a killer soundtrack and aesthetic that hits just as hard 33 odd years on. Bring it back

Tron Catalyst I'm only a bit into/seeing how I'm going with it but so far I'm VERY delighted by the commitment to the Tron Legacy lore in it. I'm a Tron Legacy guy now.

Like those are numbers devs would kill for right? They had an audience ready to go and just botched the whole thing. Gamers often don't know what they want but in this case maybe EA really should've just made the video game people had been asking for for the last 15 years, not this live service shit

EA Skate's dev just announced "changes to (their) team structure" which is as sad as it is unsurprising. I try not to over-analyse player counts but I can't stop thinking about how they once celebrated that they had over 15 million unique players. People REALLY wanted to like this game but alas

Indie games are very rad and need more eyes, but AAA games aren't worthless. They're built with talent, production value is something that can be enjoyed, and I think my work/posts online have always spoken to finding artistry in projects that seem like cynical movie-tie ins/cash grabs or whatever

I usually don't like participating in the internet's gamer discussion of the day but I'm glad this post is being rebuked. And I'm projecting here but I've always disliked the extension of this take where "big expensive thing" has no artistry but the "indie underground thing" is where the real art is

every thing Jeff Bridges says in this movie is delightful like he just drops sentences like "it's bio-digital jazz man" and it sounds so fuckin cool. if anyone else in the movie said shit like that you'd be like ew, but he makes it land

rewatched Tron Legacy for the first time since it was at the cinema and I reckon I'm about 2-3 more viewings off of loving this movie. It's sort of bad but it seems like I will eventually love it. I simply need to brute force it. It's normal behaviour ok

I've learnt that the currency you use to travel to tutorial island can not be bought with real money, so I/a news article I read misrepresented this. They're still charging real money for early access to the area, and they removed language on their FAQ that said all new areas will always be free

everything about the Skate reboot both vexxes me and makes complete sense when I think about it through a corporate lens. It's crazy to think about how it was pushed early on as "for the fans" after all the #skate4 comments. It's just a bonkers case study in corporatised game design

The new Skate game is about to charge in-game currency to return to the tutorial island after promising that all locations will be free to access in the past, and at this point my only real hope for the game is that modders pull it offline and completely rework the aesthetic and make some good maps

and hey honestly if you find emulation too annoying to do I get it. I absolutely adore emulation but it does at least require a little bit of nous that you might not want to spend any leisure time navigating. But damn is emulation like one of the coolest things about gaming, I love it so much
