In a team effort with @bentonlab.bsky.social 's lab we establish new genetic tools in #drosophila sechellia and compare single central brain neurons.
Creating the first comparative single-cell brain atlases for 3 Drosophila species was a huge effort by Daehan Lee in @bentonlab.bsky.social. With it, we describe glial cell evolution potentially associated with D. sechellia's specialization.

My lab studies both lab mice and naked mole rats. There is a belief amongst some that what we discover in mice will be universally true, and what we discover in naked mole rats will be a weird mole rat quirk. I believe this mouse-centric view of biological systems is very limiting.

A collaborative effort with folks not yet here, including 2 exceptional Master students. My new lab will continue to study behavioral plasticity and its evolution using these species.
