A junior Washington and Lee student who lives in lower third year says many students do not lock their doors. In his townhouse, they put a water bottle on the handle inside to keep the door unlocked for easy access.

Washington and Lee Public Safety says an unknown individual came into an apartment and fled the area when confronted.

Public Safety tells students to ensure their doors and windows are locked and to report any suspicious behavior.

Washington and Lee University says they are working with the Rockbridge County Sheriff and the Lexington Police Department to have additional patrols on campus.
