posted this before i even hit the turning point in shuzi, and everything got worse. almost forgot what a trilogy sometimes entails, so im being destroyed by how in shuzi, the same ideas are brought up again, built upon but in a different way thats in line with shuzi's theme of powerless kids

the changes in the leads are heartbreaking
zhan yan: pure, sunshine guy to meaningless and dreamless
jiang shaoheng: avoidant to anxious

But yes, also didn't mind gtl'ing most of Pretense since the plot was so engrossing (and Shuzi even more so!!) The only other book that I finished reading with mtl first was priest's bridge novel

Finished Pretense (Vanity Fair) last night and I'm so hooked on Shuzi now that I'm reading it during the day... (which I haven't done since 2024 iirc)
I've only read 1.1 books from Three Bananas but I'm sold on their stories. Will probably try their other works too after finishing this trilogy -
