The work deals with family connections to a series of dark events in the 1680s in Galloway via land & waterscape evocations.

Excellent substack today from @kennyfarq.bsky.social on Photo North in Leeds. Asking why Scotland doesnβt have a similar festival of photographyβ¦ fair question. Kenny focuses in particular on John Bollotenβs work which is quite something.

Poet Laureate Simon Armitage in conversation with our very own Edinburgh Makar @michaelpedersen.bsky.social. The importance of libraries, rural sheds, song lyrics and brown sauce v red sauce were all crumbs to be strewn on the bird table of poetry chat last night.
Really enjoyed Andrew Patrizioβs lecture on Ian Hamilton Finlay yesterday. Thereβs always something new to learn about IHF and Andrew is a fine speaker with a great wealth of knowledge. He makes it look effortless!

The exhibition of Joseph McKenzieβs work continues at Studies in Photography at 6 William St in Edinburgh until 29th March. Come and see us!
20.03.2025 17:10 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Joseph McKenzie left an enormous treasure trove of prints, negatives and his own notations and writings. He was a prolific worker, socially engaged photographer and committed to his city (Dundee) and his students. Frank covered a lot of the challenges - and the joy - of managing such a huge estate.
20.03.2025 17:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We hosted a series of great events yesterday with at Studies In Photography, special guest was Frank McKenzie who runs the vast archive of his father Josephβs material. Frank was in conversation with Anna Robertson from the McManus in Dundee. A lot was covered. Fascinating stuff! π· ππΌ

Iain Sarjeant and his publishing house @anotherplacepress.bsky.social have been very supportive of my work in the past, itβs great to see Iain come through a difficult period & turn adversity into such a beautiful landscape project. Highly recommended. Congratulations @iainsarjeant.bsky.social ππΌ

A massive thank you for your patience folks π
I was originally nervous about sharing this body of work with it being a change of direction and quite personal to me too. But now, holding a copy in my hands I'm super proud of it and can't wait to share it with you...

01.03.2025 06:43 β π 4 π 4 π¬ 0 π 0Ah, bit of a sad memory popped up here. I photographed Sean in 1992 for Scotland on Sunday magazine. We had a nice wee chat about The Smiths (he was a bit of an obsessive) and M&S cardigans. Did like a pint of Guinness too. He was a lovely man. Passed away in 2017 aged just 51. RIP Sean.

13.12.2024 05:42 β π 1 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Enjoyed visiting Stills Salon - large group show with around 80 pieces all made by local/national/international artists and photographers using Stills in house facilities.
