I had someone who worked at one of these companies claim that if they didn't keep doing genAI they wouldn't be able to cure cancer. Like if there was a tech for cancer out there it would just disappear if ChatGPT couldn't fund it.

The only reason we're seeing this shit is because they hit the profit ceiling on actual uses and now need to show "line go up" to investors. And the line is "number of users" not actual profit.

I cannot stress enough how the AI thing is just blockchain again. It has some uses, yes, but they're not actually general purpose ones. The bubble is going to burst and it's going to be so bad and like all cons, it's going to leave a few people rich and the rest FUCKED OVER.

The Central Library is so beautiful. Like I know NYPL is all over media, but it's almost intimidating in style. The Central Library feels warmer. But I am an irredeemable Californian so it might just be what I associate with home.

Every ten years, LAPL sends me an email that just says "hey, we're autorenewing your card, just so you know!" They have been doing this for me for 30 years, from when I was a literal child.

NYC, on the other hand, seemed determined to make it as hard as possible to get a library card. I do not know why. Oakland EMAILED me a barcode during the pandemic. NYC wanted every document in existence.

You will have to pry the LA Library from my cold, dead hands. It is my favorite and will always be.

The first thing I ever looked up driving directions to was the Central Library in DTLA, which is still my favorite library in the world.

The FIRST thing I do whenever i move is join the local library. NYC made it the hardest and CA the easiest. Fun fact: Most of the time you can join ANY public library in CA as long as you live somewhere in California. Also, LAPL has the best digital catalog of any library I have ever joined.
