Tasmanian salmon firm confirms use of antibiotic at hatchery
A major Tasmanian salmon producer used an antibiotic to treat a disease outbreak at a hatchery in Hobartโs water catchment, but made no public announcement.
Is there no end to what the salmon industry thinks it can get away with in our waters?
Full marks to independent journalist, Bob Burton, and MLC, Meg Webb, for digging out a dirty secret. Where the hell was the EPA in all this?

A sad and fond farewell to John Kudelka, Tasmanian political cartoonist, Walkley Award winner and much loved for his quizzical, sometimes searing take on events and politics in our state and around the nation. John died far too young at 53.

Thanks to the great organisers of Party in the Paddock for inviting me to speak to a great audience of all ages about being an Independent MP and how important it is for all of us to be engaged with the democratic process & the future of our island.
Thanks, too, to all the volunteers!.

A downgrade means higher interest rates on borrowings that are already out of hand with the Treasury warning weโre like a family buying weekly groceries on the never-never. Expect a similar outcome when Standard and Poorโs, the other big international ratings agency, 2/3

The weather is being anything but kind to my hardy friends getting out on roadsides everyday to promote the No Stadium rally next Sunday at 11am. Join them tomorrow morning from 7.30 at the top of Macquarie St, opposite the Southern Outlet. Wrap up warmly and bring along a jacket!

No team without the Macquarie Point stadium? That mantra just doesnโt hold true when you strip it down. Hereโs a discussion with author and journalist, Richard Flanagan, on why itโs perfectly reasonable to say โYes Team, No Stadiumโ - Pt1/2

For a state struggling to educate Tasmanians for the 21st century, swinging fee hikes and course cuts is the last thing we need. Looks like budget cuts in all the wrong places to help pay for the AFL stadium we donโt need and canโt afford. #politas

Statement by Peter George in response to inquiries about MPs wages
The Mercury: We're contacting all parliamentarians to ask if they accepted the pay rise or rejected it. Alongside the article, weโre publishing a list of everyone and putting each politician in one of three columns - โacceptedโ, โdeclinedโ, or โdid not/refused to commentโ, depending on how they answer our query.
What MPs do with the wage rise is entirely a matter for each individual MP.
I have accepted the wage rise.
While this should remain an entirely private matter, I will make this clear just once:
My wife and I agreed when elected in July 2025 to tithe a percentage of the MPsโ wage to good community causes.
We intend to direct the additional wage to the same and/or other community causes.
I have no intention of giving it back to a government prepared to squander public monies on an unnecessary stadium.

Last week we saw the report on our Right to Information and it was pretty damning. Its recommendations for change will be hard for the government to resist

The Tasmanian planning commission has come out with a very clear verdict on the Macquarie point Stadium. Itโs not in the right place, it doesnโt come at the right cost and it will be an imposition on future generations as the costs of running the place mount. 1/2

A mea culpa today, Iโm sorry to say.
But if you set out to be transparent as an MP, you have to admit your failings while claiming your successes.
