04.10.2025 11:31 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Statement by Peter George in response to inquiries about MPs wages The Mercury: We're contacting all parliamentarians to ask if they accepted the pay rise or rejected it. Alongside the article, weโre publishing a list of everyone and putting each politician in one of three columns - โacceptedโ, โdeclinedโ, or โdid not/refused to commentโ, depending on how they answer our query. What MPs do with the wage rise is entirely a matter for each individual MP. I have accepted the wage rise. While this should remain an entirely private matter, I will make this clear just once: My wife and I agreed when elected in July 2025 to tithe a percentage of the MPsโ wage to good community causes. We intend to direct the additional wage to the same and/or other community causes. I have no intention of giving it back to a government prepared to squander public monies on an unnecessary stadium. ย

17.09.2025 11:34 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The Tasmanian planning commission has come out with a very clear verdict on the Macquarie point Stadium. Itโs not in the right place, it doesnโt come at the right cost and it will be an imposition on future generations as the costs of running the place mount. 1/2
17.09.2025 11:07 โ ๐ 14 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0A mea culpa today, Iโm sorry to say.
But if you set out to be transparent as an MP, you have to admit your failings while claiming your successes.
I met with members of the Leslie Vale Community Group tackling real community issues - the dangerous intersection where Leslie Vale Road intersects with the Huon Highway, blasts from the nearby blue metal quarry, foot tracks & a planned mobile phone tower.
31.08.2025 09:38 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Lone MPs have little influence over such decisions but Iโm already getting angry and distressed messages from people who admire - and benefited from - Rotorliftโs quarter century of rescue operations in difficult terrain and dangerous conditions.

Tasmaniaโs locally owned helicopter rescue service, Rotorlift, has lost its bid for a new $350million 10-year contract to a mainland company.
I met owner, Allana Corbin, a week ago raising issues with the tender process that she felt unfairly discriminated against Rotorlift.

of the cross bench voted with Labor whose MPs looked lonely and dispirited when a division was called and they stood alone.
Just about every cross bencher made it clear that voting against Labor didnโt mean there was much (if any) confidence in the Liberals of Jeremy Rockliff.

What might have been a long day in Parliament with high drama over Laborโs motion for a no confidence motion in Jeremy Rockliffโs Liberals turned out to be something of a damp squib.
You might think thatโs a good thing.

The Liberals are home and hosed.
Laborโs no-confidence motion against the Rockliff government will fail, pre-determined by five Greens announcing they wonโt support it.
This is more to do with Laborโs ineptitude in abysmally failing to work towards genuine compromise and collaboration than anything.

So good signs of progress but both the old parties will still have to show greater trustworthiness and goodwill than they have in the past to win over the cross bench.
