På Arosenius staffli stod vid hans bortgång den stora ofullbordade temperamålningen av Noaks ark (bild 67). Måhända hade han börjat arbeta på duken ett par år tidigare men övergivit den. Men motivets betydelse hade nu vuxit. Arken tycks tränga upp ur marken. Bilden blir till en symbol över liv och överlevnad, där syndafloden gått fram är blott död och förin telse. Men arken räddade en skör rest av livet som åter började spira. ”Varen fruktsamma och föröken eder och uppfyllen jorden”, var Herrens bud till Noak och hans söner.
