We just have to wait for casting I think. Entwhistle even had a showrunner in place before he ended the project. Last rumor I heard was that this show was supposed to enter production next month. Until it actually is, I don’t think we can say anything is officially official quite yet.

I hope this franchise’s alleged reboot (being produced by Disney, ironically) breathes new life into the franchise, and its perseverance and heart wins out over its cynical roots, but for now, we just have to hope the power will protect us.

Despite its violence (supplemented with PSAs about self defense and nonviolence), Power Rangers showed kids they could be something more (and, hell, something cooler), just by being good people. I’m sad about where it is, and how many roadblocks prevent the franchise from reaching its potential.

What made me always stick by it wasn’t just the costumes or robots, but the idea of being chosen by your character to be something better. Even if you got beaten down by a tacky purse made into a rubber monster, if you got back up and kept fighting, you were worth something.

Power Rangers has been a series of cash grabs and apathetic caregivers, which I hate, because despite its cheapness, its themes of chosen family and perseverance combined with unique superhero aesthetics still give it credence, even if those themes came about by accident.

To add insult to injury, Hasbro licensed Power Rangers to Playmates Toys, who are currently re-issuing cheaper versions of the original MMPR toy line and upscaling the original MMPR with AI to capture new fans, called Reignition. Hasbro seems to have washed their hands completely of the franchise.

After a 30th anniversary special and an exclusively American-made season (made with…pennies), Hasbro ended the Power Rangers television show in its original form, ending a 30 year legacy. A potential reboot is currently in production hell.

Even worse, Brian Goldner passes away, PR’s only champion gone. To get out of the red, Hasbro sells eOne thus leaving Power Rangers with no production company.
