I really think you’re right. They want y’all to show up on Election Day but they’re mad that you want to have a say what ends up on the ballot. Backlash to all the contributions trans folks are making in volunteering an organizing for candidates and the Mpls DFL itself.

And then once they slap the DFL label on whatever moneyed centrist candidate they, the rest of us - trans folks, queer folks, Black folks, immigrants, renters, climate change organizers - are supposed to vote for that because there’s literally no one else.

So yeah, they don’t like newcomers coming in at the committee, caucus, or convention level. They would rather that remain an insider club where they decide their next mayor amongst the old, white, cis, homeowner crowd.

But establishment DFL doesn’t care so much about values as power - as evidenced by their cooperation with republicans (see Frey’s PACS and their tactics). They’re happy to remain democrat in name because an open republican can’t win Mpls

And that’s fucking great for the Mpls DFL. I met a several recent arrivals who are trans or queer at my caucus and the conventions and uh, guess what, they’re motivated to make the city a place to survive and thrive. They’re donating considerable expertise and passion

The upsurge in transphobia is obvs linked to current national and international trends. But in the Mpls DFL it also feels related to white cis establishment people losing power. The DFL is seeing a lot of new blood as trans folks move here and volunteer and get involved in the inner workings

The DFL tent has room for lots of different people!

It does not have room for:
Transphobia, homophobia, racism, anti-labor people, republicans.

It’s a party BASED ON specific values and ideologies. There’s room for anyone who shares those values. Everyone else including transphobes can fuck off.

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. The Lyndale redesign kind of radicalized me. It worked SO. WELL. Made me think about how often we expect people to make personal choices that run counter to infrastructure choices - in road design but also everywhere. We gotta build the behavior we want to see

I agree with your entire argument about being in community with children - like, 110%. But I also reeeeally hate the term childless personally 😅 it sounds like “incomplete” to me. I vote new term (and also for all of us to treat children as human beings with rights who are valued community members)

I mean, sure, except the Strib’s reporting is not just not as in depth, but actively biased. So, if there was a way to fix that, that would be great. I would freaking love an in depth story on PAC funding, honest crime trends, honest analysis of police funding, etc in a local paper

I don’t think it’s possible to overstate how much our whole society would improve with hearings aides that 1) work well / filter out noise, 2) are affordable, and 3) are at least *mostly* easy to use
