New little grouping of tiny altar vessels. Just big enough for a little offering. A minuscule tribute. A diminutive tithe...

Use them to keep a dice or two, a ring, a pair of earrings, the last shred of your sanity.

A graphic featuring the cover of The Killing of a Chestnut Tree by Oliver K. Langmead, which has a tree stump with an ax in it, surrounded by roses. Meanwhile, behind it, is a tree growing out of a church.

ICYMI: Behold the cover of The Killing of a Chestnut Tree by @oliverklangmead.bsky.social! Coming October 27, 2026.

This cozy, fantastical mystery introduces Havelock Harper, an all-new queer gentleman detective in the tradition of Sherlock Holmes.

Be gay, solve crimes!

Wildly, although at a simple/vague level he goes from a guy who gets beat up physically to make a point, to a guy who gets beat up emotionally to make a point.

I have also just been alerted to the existence of these and now *I* must have one. Oh my gosh. Just look at it.

Oh, me too, though I'm not sure he would agree :)

I had a minor side character named Gamon in draft 1 who was cut every other draft and put back in the next one under a completely different role. I'm just finishing up draft 9 and he has finally found his permanent place in the story.

Same, I gotta write in order. Revising, however, is total chaos order over here. 😌

I can't stress this enough, #WritingCommunity, and I'm sorry, but I don't want to see your AI-generated cover art or character imaginings. You are doing your books and yourself a disservice, and it just makes me want better for you. I want to support you, I really do. But I just can't support this.

It feels quite official now, especially with how close to querying this project is. I know the title could very well change in publishing, but just having one at all has made me all squeeee :D

I have always agonized over titles and names. It's always the last step and ALWAYS an ordeal, if I can think of one at all. Naming in game character creation takes hours, all my art is "untitled"; I wrote an entire trilogy that to this day is still just called "trilogy" (parts 1, 2, 3 respectively).

Excited to announce that after 8 long years of on and off drafting and revisions,

I finally have a working title for my WIP.

Anti-transgender bill among β€˜most harmful and outrageous’ Utah LGBTQ+ advocates have seen β€’ Utah News Dispatch Ahead of the 2026 Utah Legislature, LGBTQ+ advocates are bracing a fifth year of multiple bills targeting transgender people.

Kansas: We are aiming to do more harm to Trans people than any other state in the US.

Utah: Hold my Budweiser Zero.

My sister said something interesting, yesterday, and I think it was something along the lines of "I hope Trevor Lee chokes on his own vomit"?

Thank you to @authorsabb.bsky.social heroes @beccacoffindaffer.bsky.social and Ed Underhill, we have some slides that can be shared by anyone about this, with particular reps to target. Let's kill this bill in committee.

Its crazy how many popular ideas on behavior are based on creatures being kept or forced into stressful conditions

Alpha Wolves: from a study on wolves in captivity

Lemming Suicide: Lemmings were chased off the cliff in a "documentary"

Behavioral Sink: Rat "Paradise" had no enrichment activities

Trans people at higher risk of suicide: Trans people live in a country where their existence is increasingly politicized and fetishized, while watching even their most basic rights get systematically dismantled and taken away by people who have vocalized their intent to destroy them.

I don't want to read a book written by AI.
I don't want to read a book half written by AI.
I don't want to read a book narrated by AI.
I don't want to read a book with an AI cover.
I don't want to read a book written by somebody who supports AI.

Voices: Reading age-appropriate books about sexual assault would have helped me as a kid. Today’s students deserve better. β€œProtecting kids and teens from discussions about sex is not saving them from assaults. And books are not causing the assaults,” writes Shannon Hale in an op-ed. β€œBut books can aid in clarifying what ...

I wrote a piece for an Utah paper about why books that deal with sex and assault are important for teens and shouldn't be labeled as pornography and banned. This is a major issue in my home state where many do not believe sex scenes in books are ever justified.

"Velas bright blonde hair was flurrying beyond her head in the billowing breeze. Landwards wind 40, gusts up to 60, she estimated by the gentle drag."

I wanted character, and atmosphere. And set a scientific/scifi tone. She's a meteorlogist. Inspired by this painting I made last year.

"The diesel 456 roared under the hood of her polished silver Prophet Cargo Wagon as April Holgate powered across the pitted concrete of the Westroad Bridge."
I made that choice to show up front that this was an alt-world deisel-punk novel, and to open on an action scene.

Friend of the Damned: I cannot forget.
Lock the Last Door: Guess it was after midnight when I reached the house.

Tomorrow is going to be different, Abby thought to herself. It has to be. After everything that happened today, it just has to be.

That's the opening of THE FIRST KID ON MARS (WIP), which was bouncing around my head for a few days before I wrote it down. I had no idea what the story would be.

β€œGod is dead”

Because what I want to explore in it is how religion operates and adapts within hyper capitalism and the entertainment industry

"The first rule of ghost stories is they always start with someone who doesn't believe; well, I never believed in ghosts until Ebonhollow."

I added this in later, beforehand I just opened with the train journey to Ebonhollow, but I wanted to open with my MC's voice rather than just the train :)

I set a personal record for brevity with this one - and one I can only beat once! XD

I went back and forth on this. This is AL talking about the ship they're commissioned to, the Fannous' Compass - how the creaking of the ship sounds like old bones.

I wanted to highlight AL's imagination and~

β€œMom, Dad’s vest doesn’t fit!”

MC is wearing her dead father's vest to ceremony commemorating the battle for freedom he died in. I liked it because on one hand, it's very mundane. On the other, it's extremely thematic with her wanting to feel connected to him & live a life worthy of his sacrifice.
