I'd like warp drives to be a thing, and also, I don't know if the rest of the universe deserves to be infected with humans

The hectare-to-acre and inch-to-cm conversion ratios are both close to 2.5, so the math is coincidentally easy to remember here. One acre times 12 inches is just about one hectare times 12 cm.

So one acre-foot covers one hectare to a depth of 12 cm.

This is so much less bad than Oz presented it as. The DME industry is rife with bad actors, the rates charged to Medicare and Medicaid are absurd, the entire process feels like a scam and it too often is. That said, I’m dubious this will help with the problem in any way.

Probably! I just signed up for Democracy Americana and will read more of your work to try to understand better.

Must we?

*Was* there ever a moderate political project that went by the name "conservative," a project of any influence mentionable in the same breath as the conservatism of Buckley and Goldwater? Should we waste time discussing which words "conservative" is cognate with?

In my 20s, I enjoyed almost every Disney animated picture released in theaters, including the re-releases. Many of them are some of the most beautiful art humans have ever created. I have never seen a single one of these live-action remakes

I had this online exchange once:

β€œThat DC in arid, dry Spain will steal water people need”

β€œIt’s being built in a town on a large river of which it will use 0.1%”

β€œThat river water should be used for farms”

β€œIt is, a canal diverts ~10% of it 100 miles away. To grow tobacco”

(silence)

Even simpler, you can divide acre-feet by the size of the DC to do an easy comparison to agriculture. For example, cotton farms in the Arizona desert or alfalfa (for beef) farms in West Texas typically use 3-4 acre-feet per acre.

basically, every time you use a fallacious argument of a faux harm, you lay the groundwork for these companies to escape accountability for their real harms, because it's trivial for them to make a concession to not do the faux harm. bsky.app/profile/lizt...

I was in desperate need of good brain feeling, so I installed Timberborn and played until 1am and now my head is sufficiently empty.

The trolls producing AI videos about me are on Twitter, a site I do not even use, so I’m not sure how’d I block them! Ultimately mass-scale harassment is a SOCIAL problem, not an individual problem, and can only be controlled with POLICY, not individual action.

you cannot trust anything that is on archive today, archive is, archive ph, etc.

there is no accountability for it (anon owner), they host doxxing data and refuse to take it down, they alter things (defeating their one reason to exist), and they massively copyright infringe news sites etc.

…but I didn't appreciate the emotional appeal till I was defending my writing style to a manager by describing John McPhee's "ABC/D" structureβ€”three narratives that seem infuriatingly unrelated and a fourth revealing they were about the same thingβ€”and he paused and said "I see why you like Neo4j."

Are you seeing any requests for `/llms.txt` or `/llms-full.txt`? I wonder if providing helpful guidance for the bots on the former, and/or providing the (heavily-cached) full text of the site on the latter, would reduce their access to the more-expensive dynamic pages

Half of our agricultural land is used for beef that provides 3% of our calories. Nobody likes it when I bang my spoon on my high chair about this but eventually we need to grapple with it.

I just implemented KEDA autoscaling for a service whose usage looks like that, and was annoyed that the k8s HPA’s scaleDown.StabilizationWindowSeconds parameter maxes out at 1 hour. I was hoping for 2.

CBS spokesperson Phil Gonzales provided The Verge with the same statement claiming
Colbert was not blocked from broadcasting the interview that was given to Variety and other outlets, but refused to attribute it by name per The Verge's background policy. Asked for a name, Gonzales wrote, "Respectfully, you don't need to use the statement. We will keep that in mind next time verge as us to reply [sic]."

Again, Mike, seriously, if you want to start talking with your crew about new approaches to moderation on Bluesky that attempt to solve these problems, that'd be a good conversation to have. Y'all's hair should be on fire about this
