We’ve a lot more we need to do to fix the SEND crisis in Devon, but the government has written off 90% of the national £5bn debt that the Tory government left behind.
For Devon that means £180m written off - allowing the Council certainty to move forward.

Hi Denis, I raised this with the Chair of the DSIT Select Committee when I saw it recently

Out on the doorstep supporting our candidate Angeliki in Gorton & Denton today.
People are very keen that we are focused on delivery for them and their families - on jobs, educations, transport, immigration and the NHS.
That’s what the PM is delivering for the country.

Despite the rainy forecast, our ‘Explore the Orchestra’ concerts made a splash in Devon last week, when almost 2,300 pupils and teachers flooded in from across the county to take part in the events at @exeter.ac.uk

Thanks to Minister for Care @skinnock.bsky.social and Chief Dental Officer for England Jason Wong for attending our Q&A session on NHS #dentistry in Parliament today.
The packed room shows the strength of feeling in Parliament on this crucial issue.
They should be escorting people across the tracks safely with additional staff - if you’ve not had that support, could you drop me a line with the details please? Steve.race.mp@parliament.uk

It was a delight to welcome @steveracemp.bsky.social to Inspired Villages Millbrook Village to meet residents and learn more about #integratedretirementcommunities.
A special thanks to Gavin Hogg for facilitating the visit!
📉 NHS waiting lists in #Exeter and nationwide - down
📈 Ambulance response times - up
There’s much much more to do to turn our #NHS around but thanks to investment, reform, and the hard work and dedication of staff, we’re making sure it will be back on its feet and fit for the future.
The news today?
Reform = backwater for Tories who failed over 14 years. 🥸
Tories = weak and divided by more psychodrama. 🤪
Labour government = waiting lists in our NHS drastically reduced and economic growth up. 🌹

This issue is already moving forward in legislation though - as part of the Pride in Place strategy, communities and local authorities will be given more powers to decline licensing applications like this.

Out in the chilly sunshine today talking to #Exeter residents in Duryard & St James about wheelie bins and potholes, to the cost of living, NHS waiting lists, and climate change.
There’s a huge amount of work going on to turn our country around - in 2026, we’ll feel it.
Hi, Devon County Council get a line item for £1.8m for homelessness support from government, but choose to reallocate it because it’s not ringfenced. I think that’s something people might want to know.

The Tories’ Shadow Attorney General, Lord Wolfson, is representing Roman Abramovich in a legal case that is delaying the transfer of £2.5bn of assets to benefit the people of Ukraine.
I’ve written to Kemi Badenoch about the conflicts of interest this raises. 👇
No idea to be honest - let’s wait for the budget and the if there’s an identified perceived issue, drop me an email and I can feed into HMT and get a response

I’ve joined with civic and faith leaders from across #Exeter to reaffirm our aspirations for our city - where everyone lives in peace, free from intimidation and discrimination, and where we continue to prosper by working together.
Unity over division, hope over fear.
I’m a campaigner - and I’ll be a campaigning Deputy Leader.
This last week I’ve visited every region & nation in Britain - telling Labour’s story.
We need to unite, bring change, and defeat Reform to win again.
Thanks to m’learned friend @tonyvaughanmp.bsky.social for drafting and coordinating this letter to the #EHRC on their response to the Supreme Court ruling, which I have co-signed along with other colleagues.

Today I am taking part in the Committee Stage of the Bus Services Bill, which brings back lots of the ability to run bus services that were removed by the Thatcher government’s privatisation.
Looking forward to speaking on it, informed by #Exeter residents, this afternoon.
So pleased to hear that - as promised in our manifesto - this Labour government will review maternity, paternity and parental leave.
Every mum and dad I know wants to spend more time with their kids. Current entitlements are out of step with modern families. We’ll fix them

I’ve written for @politicshome.bsky.social about how to meet our #climate and biodiversity commitments, we will need to ensure that new businesses and new ideas can be brought to market.
Let’s cut the red tape and unleash our entrepreneurs, including in #Exeter
