The live bearing sea star (Parvulastra vivipara) has been listed as critically endangered following research by our Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies and @sydney.edu.au.

Populations have declined by almost 90%, but our researchers are working to identify threats and restoration methods.

Severe bleaching leaves swathes of coral on brink of death - Oceanographic Shocking footage captured across Ningaloo Reef has documented the extent and severity of a mass coral bleaching caused by marine heatwave.

If you haven’t heard, Western Australia is suffering a marine heat wave that could be deadly to the corals in Ningaloo.
