29.04.2023 01:07 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0have a look at the michael taft video on youtube. if you have a bit of meditation exp you might find piti or even the first couple jhanas very accessible given just those instructions (might be even without much experience)
29.04.2023 01:07 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0things definitely get interesting once you get up to j7/j8/post 8 and the content of perception (if there is any) becomes extremely subtle
there are one or two good papers characterizing jhanas with eeg/fmri
equanimity is a valuable skill. it can be practiced and improved systematically

28.04.2023 19:32 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0yep that’s what i did. got one that samples continuously so i could keep jhanas going
28.04.2023 01:26 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0yep
28.04.2023 01:25 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0pretty much have convinced myself this isn’t the main thing going on, at least for me. haven’t seen a dip below 95%, so if there’s even an effect i think it’s minor
28.04.2023 01:22 — 👍 7 🔁 0 💬 4 📌 0first test had no interesting changes in blood oxygen. heart rate did spike at certain interesting points though
24.04.2023 23:39 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0is this a direct elmo callout or a comment on general gc illiteracy
22.04.2023 15:34 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0given the opportunity cost you’re paying this is a massive flex, so, W holds
22.04.2023 15:33 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0yeah. it’s a nice thing to do imo but i personally cannot live as a healthy person on plants alone
22.04.2023 15:32 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0nope, i fully had no clue. i think this means you should keep talking about it

21.04.2023 23:06 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0who’s going to tell him
21.04.2023 23:06 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I will put on a continuous pulse oximeter, start recording, traverse the 8 jhanas, open myself up to anything interesting in the post j8 space that may or may not occur (eg cessation), and report back with a graph of my SpO2 during the journey. Oximeter sample rate is 1 sample/sec
21.04.2023 20:28 — 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0so are jhanas basically just low blood oxygen or what. bayeslord experiments
21.04.2023 20:00 — 👍 7 🔁 0 💬 3 📌 1but yeah my practice is going great. mostly i do a combo of
- diff kinds of noting+labeling
- jhanas
- “unclinging” exercises where i try to not cling to certain channels or categories of experiences
- “do nothing”
- metta
that makes sense, i haven’t gotten any in person instruction in a long long time
