After banning it in 2022, Louisiana jumped from 42nd in 4th grade reading scores to 16th (2024).

Turns out the best way to teach kids to read is by actually teaching them how to read. Who would've guessed!

I would imagine it's seen as a more "efficient" method of progressing students (especially when you have so many students reading below grade level), despite being demonstrably worse than other approaches.

On the bright side, more and more states are banning it and seeing drastic improvement.

NTFB is great, but supporting smaller orgs who don't have the same marketing budget is probably a good choice. Most people will likely not have the same thought process as you and will support the larger org they've heard of, plus smaller orgs are generally less equipped to deal w/ spikes in demand.
