I've never been a big Salvy fan and it really feels like the bottom could fall out at any time. He's been below average this year (97 wRC+) and that's propped up big-time by an outlier July. The C eligibility matters enough to make this a tough call but I'm probably trying to trade Perez

Both are .334! JP has been much better this year and they flipped the platoon advantage to Clase and set up force outs and a DP.

Guards seem to have him using his curve more, slider/4 seam less and that curve is getting a ton of chases and whiffs. K%-BB% looks good. And I think they're still rationalizing his repertoire cause he's mixing in a bunch of stuff. I'm definitely intrigued enough to buy cheap and speculate

I would carry around an extra phone, queued up to this video, just so I could watch it and show it to people all the time. I would be insufferable and I would have no friends but I would have that video and that would be enough.

If I have 3 good C and only one competent SS and you offer me a C for that SS, I'm going to say no. And a cursory glance at my roster would make that obvious.

A pet peeve of mine is when people make trade offers that make NO sense for me. I don't mean offers I find uneven or whatever. Or offering me a guy I don't like. That happens and that's part of negotiating to find a match. But trades that even if I LOVED the value make no sense for my team.

Know he's had limited PA, but think Guards should call up Delauter ASAP. Has nothing to prove in minors and they badly need a boost in OF that he can potentially provide. Only two questions with him are 1) can he transition to MLB and 2) can he stay healthy. Both can be answered in CLE

How much do you think platooning is messing with him? Last year, I felt like every time he was playing regularly, he performed, and he struggled when he played sporadically. Feels like me needs to both get in a rhythm AND not feel pressure to make every PA matter.

Process+ seems to see him as above average overall despite the contact issues, and trending in the right direction. Though contact needs to improve. I think he runs enough and hits for enough power that he can overcome a high K rate, even if it means low average

The statcast numbers (good hard hit, great barrel, .343 xwOBA) don't move you at all? The K rate is a little high but to me he looks more like a good hitter getting bad luck while still adjusting to MLB pitching than anything else.

Not 150? Or 100? He's on his way to a 15/25 type season even if he only gets to 500ish PA and has been pretty unlucky. If he's going 150 or later, I think he's going to be a great value

It's not a bad offer, but it hinges a lot on your thoughts on Lewis. The best version of Lewis at that price is a great centerpiece. If he's just the guy he's looked like recently, he's not going to be worth keeping. So I think I like this IF you're high on Lewis.

Yeah that's fair. he very much might lose it again. My read is they brought him in to close and he's now getting the job a second time. Which suggests to me Kerkering can't take the job. Romano can lose it but it would require him struggling and right this moment he looks solid.

Actually the highest was the Lindor PA in the 7th with a man on. Which I could buy as well. But the Vientos PA leading off the ninth with McNeil and Alvarez to follow is benefitting in LI because it's the end of the game, but that Soto PA is 100% where I want my best RP

On a related topic - are the 9th inning outs actually the most "game changing" or are they just closest to the end and therefore swing win probability the most? The highest LI PA in BOS-NYM today was 1st hitter bottom 9. You'll never convince that Soto the previous inning wasn't a bigger deal.

Think you could even argue that if Kerkering is better, switching closers makes the team WORSE. If he's the best RP and you're already using him to put out fires and take out the middle of the opponents order, making him the closer isn't making him more valuable IMO

I just find it's like 75% incumbent bad, 20% manager wants to be able to mix and match, and like 5% challenger good. If Romano is good, even if Kerkering is better, there's no meaningful benefit to switching closer at that point, especially with Kerkering headed towards arb

I hear you two taking stuff+ and Strahm/Kerkering being probably better pitchers and I'm not sure if that matters at all. If Romano is good and getting saves, he stays, no matter what the other two are doing - they'll be used in crucial situations as needed with Romano in 9th. Unless Romano sucks.

I think once Romano is closer, given track record etc, there's no path for Strahm or Kerkering to take the job unless he's bad enough to be forced out.
