Thank you for shedding light on this issue. It definitely made me think more about how my mindset around gaming history has been limited in scope. It also gave a voice and a name to how I have felt about how the black and minority centered origins of the FGC, and esports has been glossed over.

Black and fellow marginalized communities are the foundation that the modern esports industry was built on, and the pandemic has proven that it is the most resilient. Esports in America didn't start with MLG. It started with arcades and black children playing Tekken at their cousins house

It always frustrated me that the fighting game community is always a footnote in the conversation around gaming and especially esports and when it is discussed, the fact that these arcades were often located in poor, primarily black communities is ignored or glossed over. Good to know im not alone.
