As Donald Trump turns the United States into one of the closest allies Russia has worldwide, it's worth revisiting the news item below, which came out immediately after Trump won a surprising victory in November:

An excerpt from an OpEd that @jimalwine.bsky.social and I published. We wrote about about what happened in Samoa with the measles outbreak there and said, simply:

“The same will happen here”.

It's weirdly difficult to remember that Trump's popular vote margin was /less/ than Hillary's in 2016. Biden got more votes in 2020 than Trump got in 2024 and Trump surrogates all under-performed in congressional races.

This is not a mandate, I don't get why it is being portrayed that way.
