Authoritarians have ONE story: we're fomenting counter revolution (against a revolution that never occurred) to take back our country from "those people" who don't threaten/destroy/undermine it. When you feed that story, you help the authoritarians.

Yes. And...Dems failed to codify Roe, pass Freedom to Vote Act, prosecute Trump swiftly, when they had trifecta bc of attachment to tradition (filibuster) & decorum. You can't tell voters "THREAT THREAT THREAT" & not confront it.

First to say, watching focus groups isn't a way to feel great about America.

Finally, the other overriding reality in both qual and quant from 2024 was what I termed "credulity chasm." Key difference between Harris & not Harris voter (Trump, stay home, 3rd party) wasn't approval of Project 2025 agenda, it was whether they believed it would actually come true.

Entirely fair blame? No. But voting for Dems in 2020 (& 2018, & to extent we blocked red wave in 2022) did NOT stop fascist threat. Disaffected & swing also kept saying, "what I recall was when Trump was in office I got a check." CAUSE HE SIGNED THEM HIMSELF.

Painful to hear, I know: all of 2024, surge voters (who won us 2020) were saying: You told us to turn out in 2020 to protect our freedoms, to stop authoritarian threat. Seems to me Roe fell, all this anti-voter shit happened, life got harder on Dems' watch. Now you're telling us same thing again?

And yes, I know, Dems are winning special elections THANK GOD. But with exceptions, #NotAllDems, that's cause voters want the chance to throw themselves in front of the car (bless you people doing heroic direct action) & thus need to block MAGA.

In 2024, in response to imagining future, stand out focus group comment was - it's like you're in a car going down a huge hill with lake at bottom. One future, Trump/MAGA is pounding the gas & you're barreling down. Other, Dems are just refusing to use brake. Either way, you end up drowning.
