Anyone who echoes their claims by, say, denouncing an ideology and/or people they have turned into punching bags, instead of denouncing the authoritarians, is approving, amplifying and aiding their story.

They lay claim to what their nation is, where it came from, what it seeks, and how it operates. As we hear at the close of Act 1 in Cabaret, "the future belongs to us." Thus, for MAGA, America is white & Christian, male & dominating.

When authoritarians claim they are the tellers of our story, it is their way of building their own mythos and destroying all others - casting anyone who opposes them as not truly human.

"The law" is what they deem it to be, applied however they desire. It's dangerous to make "the law" a personified agent, instead of calling out real values like justice, equality, freedom; this tacitly credits "the law" as some unfailing arbiter when it's simply a human construct.

Any force that accepts their stories - their propaganda, to be more precise - is an accomplice to their aims. They claim that such & so group are lazy/dangerous/wrong, all while defining what everyone ought to be doing, even as they do however they please.

If you are not actively denouncing this regime & denying them support, you are a willing accomplice to their violence.

Across places, races & parties, most Americans believe violence has no place in our politics. We settle differences & decide our futures by selecting leaders, not threatening death to our opponents. Trump & his MAGA minions just keep proving they are a regime of the bullies, for the billionaires.

This is why "let's just not talk about race/immigration" has never ever been an option. The only story authoritarians tell is blaming some "other" for all possible ills - if the response to that is change the topic or, worse yet, affirm their thesis - all voters imbibe is division, fear and hate.

It's well known that road to fascism littered with people saying "you're over reacting." Less widely recognized is that road started with allowing billionaires to purchase themselves what ought to be our government. We have been under reacting for generations.
