Correct, but it misses a conclusion:
1. Life changing fast because of technological development.
2. People mindlessly assume that continued technological development is an unalloyed good. It isn't. Social media has been a net loss. AI has been as well.
3. We need to limit tech development.
Consider this column to be something like a fire drill. "Itβs an alarm, one of thousands that should be ringing across the country. MAGAβs acts of aggression are already intimidating. Trump isnβt just trying to βstop the stealβ again; another kind of theft might already be underway."

Trump's showing signs of slipping, even with Republicans:
Only 66% of Rs are extremely/somewhat confident Trump has the mental fitness to do the job.
Only 52% of Rs say Trump respects our country's democratic values.
Only 42% of Rs say Trump acts ethically in office.
We have different senses of the target audience here. Universities aren't being attacked by low-income people or people of color, but rather by elites. How to better serve these groups is another issue.
29.01.2026 20:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I don't think this is a good read. Brooks is no scholar, and I find him to be anodyne sometimes. But he's been better over the last year or two, and his piece about neocons in last month's Atlantic was smart. More to the point, he has credibility with audiences that need to be reached.
