Great piece that has this zinger: "It is basically a cosmic game of telephone where information is passed through a process that privileges the frequency of information over nearly all else."

What if corporations gave us interactive dolls that sapped your life force and intelligence and programmed you to do their bidding, and a fandom formed around ceding yourself to the dolls and role-playing abeying yourself before them in public while chastising people who don’t want to surrender?

Reminds me of Libya under Qadaffi and Egypt under Mubarak. Shit like this was everywhere, especially in Tripoli.

Dude who wrote about how "the left is missing out on AI" is on here. Do you see who they are funded by? The biggest EA funders, the longtermist institutes we've been writing about and documenting, including FLI where Muskrat is still an advisor.

It is very hypercritical. Right now, Klæbo has won 5 gold in this Olympics, he could win yet another (which would be a record of some sorts if I understand). But he would like not have won as many this year if Bolshunov was competing, his closest competition and rival. He's a Z guy...

Cross country. Women's cross country is not as good as it used to be. And yeah, we've also been at the top but not always dominated. Helps that Russia can't compete now for example. We had some great alpine skiers too for a while, currently have one in the Olympics but he crashed out (literally).

With skiing, definitively and to be clear, on the men's side. Their female skiers are doing great.

They're shit now relative to their past glories. Not sure what happened in Sweden or why we managed to stay on top for that long but heavy funding is likely one reason. The hockey thing is weird. Growing up, I think I can remember one person that played hockey; soccer and skiing more pop

To be fair, Sweden used to be really good, the rivalry was intense even just a few years ago when Northug was a beast about a decade ago. Without strong Swedish skiers, he wouldn't have been pushed that hard.

on the Left's supposed silence on AI: the concrete things happening at the moment conform in a pretty granular way to the picture Marx draws of technological innovation in the process of capital. the center, liberals, and the hype people all seem surprised, where no Marxist cd be

Ended up ordering Disordered Attention, which may pair well with Investigative Aesthetics by Fuller and Weizman.

Thanks for the Bishop recommendation; Disordered Attention is intriguing. We seems to share the same taste in authors as I have Srincek's and Fraser's Verso books already.

Thanks that novel seems great (based on the blurb). Will consider it.

Thanks for the suggestions. Already have Dean's book, not sure what I am missing by Jameson but he's always a great read.

People are dunking on this, understandable, but I've also been that person who left a party because I wanted to get back to Stardew Valley, Apex Legends, or Marx's Capital. And jeez, 9.30pm is late.

Although a book review, @jjoque.bsky.social show how liberal-left positions that reduce AI to hype can be critiqued and engaging with the tech in depth at the same time.
