An unusual pairing of geese draws a gaggle of Portland-area birders An unusual couple of nesters has attracted the attention of Portland-area birders drawn to a story about the peculiarities of nature.

β€œThese are two totally different species of goose. But for some reason, they paired up – and they even produced eggs.”

Why I May Not Share Locations of Photographs - Luke Collins Photography "Public lands are for everyone, but not everyone is for public lands" - Phill Monson

Regarding protecting & keeping private the exact locations of wilderness ecosystems, as well as locations of wildlife and animals when photographing them. This is an attempt to protect the animals and places. This fellow explains the reasons very well,

Northern Forests - Stand.earth

Thanks for your question. It’s with a sad heart that I say, that the last remaining stands of Old Growth (and primary growth) forests are still being cut down today. I grew up in treeplanting camps - I’ve lived in cutblocks. Here’s an org working to educate and protect:

This was a great radio program about an old growth forest you might enjoy. It’s from CBC, our Canadian public broadcaster, so I’m not sure if you can listen? They keep forest locations secret.

This is wonderful education, & great to hear a success story. Do Elhwa guides walk people through actual β€œold growth” forests? Nice to hear of conservation success. Some remnants of old growth forests are within public reach & accessible for education. Hordes of visitors affects wildlife ecology.

My sharings are as a person who grew up in the wilderness, who lives & works in the wilderness. Old growth is essential habitat for animals to birth babies, den & hide from dangers - the absolute worst of danger being humans. Yes, we must protect old growth. And who must we protect it from? People.

Yes, your response clearly shows that you’re stressed. Hope you’ve a forest nearby to calm your system down within. First of all, not everything belongs to us humans. All forests have the same affect on soothing our systems. Influencers are destroying wild spaces by revealing & promoting locations.

At the end of the day, don’t we all just want a humble cottage in the middle of the forest, a vintage mystery novel, the sound of a pouring rain, a crackling fire, a kettle on the stove, and a basket of freshly-baked croissants?

Rewilding sees wildlife rebound in Hackney Marshes: how a local community has managed to spectacularly reverse nature loss.

Thanks Andy. Always appreciate your insights & perspective. I really hope we can get an instagram β€œreplacement” soon (but way better). I’m on Bluesky & enjoy the spacious freedom and support I feel here. Don’t know how to use it properly yet. Your encouragement was the final voice to get me here.

For artists who are considering Bluesky right now and are on the fence ... As many have pointed out, it's NOT an Instagram replacement. It's much more like Twitter. But here's where it has a leg up...

Day in the life of a wolf & wilderness guide during our winter storm wolves expedition. An inside-out sea otter pelt (wolves do that). Sea wolves predate sea otters & maintain a healthy population. My view: legs & camera gear waiting for wolves, frosted grass and some spunky wolf tracks. #seawolves

Driving down the highway and I saw this sign… it made me laugh. I’m pretty sure that every single detail about this sign (and whatever thing it is trying to advertise or sell) … is the literal antithesis of β€œlavish”. On the way back, I pulled over just to get a photo of it. Made me laugh… again.

Winter beauty! Some person designed this sidewalk nook garden outside of a Vancouver Island hospital. Not only is it pretty, these berries are a songbird favourite winter food - made me happy to see. They’re usually white berries, but these ones are blushing. Thanks gardeners & landscape designers 🩷
