a yellow bird sits on a tree branch in flower. A definition of the word COMPASSION says to be open-heartedly present and appreciative of others and oneβs self without feeling the urge to fix, change, distance, or judge.
A journaling questions page that says pause 5 minutes. The questions are In Curiosity Question 4, do your answers make sense to you? If your answers make sense to you, can you sit with that feeling of making sense for as long as feels right to you. How does that feel? If your answers donβt make sense to you, take a minute to write down some words or phrases about why it doesnβt make sense. How does it feel to do that? Are any of those words or phrases trying to fix, change, distance, or judge you? How does it feel to notice that? Be sure to thank yourself for slowing down and getting to know yourself better.
Compassion also has several definitions. In this exercise, how are you relating to yourself (and others)?

A close-up of a squirrel with a definition of curiosity on it that says a strong desire to know or learn something new about a topic, situation or person in a non-judgmental way.
A journaling questions page that says pause 10 minutes. The questions are What do you notice in or around your body right now? Think of any upsetting news story from at least a week ago, perhaps the same one from Hopework #11 or #10. Take a moment to tell yourself that you will re-read the article or re-listen to the news story and keep and eye or ear open for noticing something new: Did you find something new? Did you notice something new about one of the people involved in the story? Check in with yourself, did you notice anything new about how you reacted or felt while re-engaging with this news? Is it okay that you did or did not have new experiences? Why or why not?
Curiosity has several meanings but the one we will focus on in this exercise combines wanting to know with non-judgment. #hopework

This page says wait, welcome your no. It also says This exercise asks you to have a conversation with yourself about curiosity and compassion. Invite yourself to nope out of this exercise until it feels right to sit down and try it. Thank you for respecting your no.
Take a moment to welcome any hesitation you may have to do this exercise. When youβre ready, when youβve got an internal yes, come back and proceed. #hopework
