I think I’ve realized this a long time now. Even before Trump.

I’ve accepted a long time ago that most people lack empathy. It’s why I don’t find Trump’s election wins so shocking.

Trump is everything America pretends not to be. His appeal is that he gives it permission to stop pretending.

I’ve accepted this a while ago. Especially after last November.

Most people are quite selfish and self centered. They may say out loud they don’t approve of MAGA. But they’ll still vote for Trump because they think he’ll help them personally.

The reason Republicans keep winning elections despite being cosmically unpopular is because voters want lower taxes and tighter border security.

They’ll say out loud “I can’t stand Trump! He’s repulsive!” But in the voting booth, they’ll whisper “But I could really use a tax break.”

Seems obvious, but some people need a reminder: Elections are intended to be a pain in the ass to those in power. Despite the lip service they give democracy, those in authority are actually very comfortable with you not voting.
