As the news spreads confirming that Shiri, Kfir, and Ariel Bibas will not be returning from Gaza alive, having been killed by an Israeli airstrike in November 2023, we mourn the loss of these young children and their mother, horrifically taken into captivity on October 7th by insurgents. At the same time, we mourn the thousands of Palestinian mothers and children killed in Israel's genocide in Gaza.

The media's emphasis on the loss of Shiri, Kfir, and Ariel Bibas, while continually failing to uplift the loss of thousands of Palestinian children and their mothers, is intended to drive a wedge between our communities. Moments like these call us to expand the capacity of our hearts and souls to hold compassion and care for both Israeli and Palestinian families in mourning.
