23.02.2026 20:42 β π 0 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Bottom line: We didn't find evidence that was the case but it was not detrimental. So sign with your kid if you have fun doing it but do not expect anything. (of course we are only talking about typically developing kids with no hearing issues).
28.01.2026 09:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Another recent paper from our lab. Not my usual stuff though, where we looked at whether typically developping kids who are exposed to Babysign have a bigger spoken vocab (as often claimed by ppl) in a large sample of kids (1600) doi.org/10.1177/0142...
28.01.2026 09:32 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0My personal take on this is we tend to be much more conservative with the interpretation we give to animals' behaviour than human infants. Being fair is part of the journey!
28.01.2026 09:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0But this calls onto question the robustness of the role reversal paradigm into tapping onto these concepts and/or the ability to attribute agent/patient relations in very impoverished 2d animations. Pick your choice.
28.01.2026 09:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0That does not say that they don't represent agent and patient relations! There is recent evidence that infants do with social stim (doi.org/10.1016/j.cu...) and that baboons do as well in chasing events using a very different design (our very own work: doi.org/10.1177/0956...)
28.01.2026 09:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0*none* of them showed evidence of attributing agent and patient roles to causal Michottean launches. Oops.
28.01.2026 09:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0If you work on early causal perception or agent/patient concepts, chances are that you heard about Leslie & Keeble's 1987 paper. We extended their role reversal design with new control conditions in 3 populations: 6mo human infants, baboons and human adults. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
28.01.2026 09:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Perfect summary !

A series of three studies provide evidence in infants for function application, the essence of compositionality, emerging before and outside the development of compositional language. @sblldtrch.bsky.social

Does compositionality exist before/outside language? And what does non-linguistic compositionality mean btw? Some new thoughts and results on this: rdcu.be/ecVZI #ThoughtOrigin #ERC

Yes it seems that this is a topic that leads to this type of situation. She has been doing those experiments we were talking about back then (and more), cool stuff

Is perceptual novelty important in your research? We created, standardised, and validated a database of truly novel perceptual stimuli (matched to BOSS objects on size, contrast, luminance & colourfulness) so you don't have to! www.nature.com/articles/s41...
