There are small parts we all can do to maybe help preserve those beautiful creatures. Speak up, be aware of what you buy - if you buy shark meat, ask if most of the shark was used or not. Anything with fins should be avoided in majority of cases.

By 2021, the global abundance of Sharks and Rays has been reduced by 71% since 1970. There are many reasons as to why - the most relevant ones being overf!shing, f!nning, cülling & being hunted for the squalene (often found in skincare products) in their liver. +

As I looked up the IUCN status, I was heartbroken to discover that some sharks previously noted as recovering, are once again listed as decreasing.

Jaws often is blamed as THE reason, but it was only a small drop of gasoline in an already blazing fire of fearmongering.+

It's also meant to partially educate & hopefully remove some misconceptions about sharks. They're incredible animals that are extremely important to the ocean & the survival of it. We have already observed what happens when sharks are gone - the ecosystem in those areas dies. +

After this, the rest is more serious, because sharks are genuinely close to my heart. I know this thread is for fun, but they're my entire heart, truly.

Not only is the White Shark a shark of strength, precision & impressiveness, but they're also very unique in personality with some showcasing very gentle natures not just towards their surroundings, but humans, too. They're sea pooches!

8. Jcgho - White Shark

You all know this shark & maybe it's reputation as a ruthless cruel hunter, but that is frankly wrong. They're efficient, calculated & smart, yes, but they're not cruel. White Sharks have unique personalities, they can be bold, curious & very intelligent.

IUCN lists them as from Vulnerable to Critically Endangered, dependant on the species.

Wy often gets perceived with a reputation that doesn't fit him. He's kind, funny & knows how to bite back. Nurse sharks are the very same & often their patience is mistaken as kindness.

7. Wyng - Nurse Shark

My reasoning is quite simple - nurse shark are known for being easy to handle, but once their patience is tested, they can bite back in self-defense. They're nocturnal generally & move alone, but during the day they often can be found in groups.

I love them a lot just like Mg, but that's not the reason. As I stated, tiger sharks rep is undeserved - they're often perceived as something they really aren't. Something I see a lot happen with Mg, where facts are ignored for own opinions.

6. Mng1 - Tiger Shark

Tiger Sharks have a dangerous reputation that is undeserved. They are curious, inquisitive & bold, which often leads to encounters with humans, but not necessarily to bite incidents. Sometimes they're called 'lazy', they're conserving energy.

I mean... it's quite simple, isn't it? They're both sociable, cute, scaredy cats and just... Everything. It may not be the strongest of the strongest, but in my opinion, it fits Sn to a tee 💜

5. Sn - Leopard Shark

Well... That was honestly the easiest. Don't get me wrong, all the 4tz men are friendly as they can be, but sunshine Sn? He screams Leopard Shark. They're very social, happy little sharks that are very timid & friendly, but they can easily be startled.

His observant nature is often taken as passiveness, which is something I think applies to him & the Caribbean Reef Shark. They're also one of the most infamous known & photographed sharks. Just like ppl learn about 4tz when they see Ys.

4. Ysng - Caribbean Reef Shark

This time I suffered. Caribbean Reef Shark are passive in nature and they pose little threat to humans. They tend to be more observant & some of their most interesting behaviour is to lie motionless on the ocean floor for some time.

I was almost tempted to pick the Whale Shark thanks to @yeonni.bsky.social 's upcoming ynsn fic, but I went with a shark that reminds me a lot of his competitive, curious & outgoing bold nature. Specifically when he really wants something...

3. Ynhc - Blacktip Reef Shark

Yh was even harder to pick. I went with the Blacktip Shark for their hunting behaviour & how inquisitive they can be when divers appear. They can be a bit of a menace if fish is being hunted & other sharks are present - aka a tad competitive.

Originally, I picked the Sand Tiger Shark (1st pic, critically endangered), because they form very complex social structures, but I think the Lemon Shark is more fitting! Friendships can form with divers that last for years at times!

2. Snghwa - Lemon Shark

Alright, I'm going with Lemon Shark, the considered universal sea puppy (sorry yh). They're social creatures who can form friendships with other sharks & divers even. Their personalities are unique, with some more timid, others more bold.

Just like Hj, they can be quite solitary & awkward, a big reason why I picked them. They're infamously known for the shy shark "C-can I eat you?" meme! They're precise in their hunting technique & fast.
