EPA finalizes methane rule delay The delay gives oil and gas producers more time to comply with the Biden administration’s landmark crackdown on methane emissions from the oil and gas

Same corporations and lobbyists, same campaign, in the US and Canada: slow down, water down, eliminate any regulation that might lower profits. In the US: "energy dominance." In Canada: "energy superpower."

Potential emissions from LNG aren't all in there. This year's report is less clear which, but the #s look consistent with past practice for projections to only include approved projects with a final investment decision. LNG Canada phase 2 and Ksi Lisims, though approved by govt, aren't in there.

A thread on the MOU.

MOST IMPORTANT: Carney's move signals to the rest of Canada, and the world, that it's OK to keep building more fossil fuel projects.
Other countries will use this to justify doing the same.

Text from a NYT article:

Emissions have come down, but there's still far to go.

Call this good-ish news. Lower emissions mean the arc of temperature increase has curved downward over the past 10 years. If countries stick to current policies, the global average temperature is projected to rise by 2.5 to 2.9 degrees Celsius by the end of the century.

The claim that β€œemissions have come down” in this @nytimes.com @sominisengupta.bsky.social article on where we are ten years post-Paris is FALSE.

Global emissions were at an all-time high in 2024.

As it stands this claim is misinformation. They need to issue a correction!
