Albertans are Getting Screwed!
Short video. @drewanderson.bsky.social nailing it.
Many Alberta oil & gas companies arenโt paying landowners or municipal taxes. The Regulator is opaque.
MAGA Energy Ltd. Is one of hundreds of bad actors allowed to run wild at everyone elseโs expense.

Or, maybe they are! But itโs journalistic malpractice not to even try to back it up. A line that says we called the White House for comment and They didnโt reply. Or, we asked Davies who he met with and he declined to say or SOMETHING.

I actually do believe it, to a degree. Iโm not sure who and to what extent though. I think some is bluster. I mean, meeting someone from the White House could mean you had coffee with an intern.

Another Alberta separatist leader is courting U.S. conservatives in Washington and Mar-a-Lago
The Republican Party of Albertaโs leader says he's meeting with U.S. officials to advocate for Alberta independence and strengthen ties.
I keep seeing articles come up in the National Post, breathlessly sayhing separatists are meeting with high-level U.S. officials. One thing I never see is any attempt to fact check those claims. Who did they meet with? Why? Anything? #cdnpoli #ableg nationalpost.com/news/another...

Oil is the most Lovecraftian thing that actually exists. You're telling me that there's a black ichor under the earth, made from the ancient dead, whose burning can realize all the dreams of man but only at the price of slowly returning the earth to its primordial state?

Alberta allowed cash-strapped MAGA Energy to acquire 170 wells | The Narwhal
The Alberta Energy Regulator approved MAGA Energy, already in financial distress, to acquire 170 oil and gas wells. Unpaid bills will likely fall on taxpayers
The Alberta Energy Regulator touts its rules for preventing financially strained companies from acquiring new licences. So why did MAGA Energy get approval to take over hundreds of sites when it was "in survival mode"? thenarwhal.ca/maga-energy-... #ableg #cdnpoli

The Alberta Energy Regulator approved MAGA Energy, already in financial distress, to acquire 170 oil and gas wells. Unpaid bills will likely fall on taxpayers
According to an email obtained by The Narwhal, MAGA Energyโs revenues had dropped and the company was in โsurvival modeโ when Alberta allowed it to acquire 170 oil wells. Now, the company isnโt paying its bills to landowners and owes taxes to at least one municipality. thenarwhal.ca/maga-energy-...

That's a sweeping assumption. Rural Albertans aren't a monolith and denigrating them achieves nothing but shutting them out of conversations.

I won't weigh in on what an opposition should or shouldn't do, but the deputy leader of the NDP was at the meeting with landowners discussed in the article. All to say, I think a lot more people are starting to pay attention to some of these issues.

Rural Albertans face growing problems with oil and gas wells | The Narwhal
The Alberta government is pushing a new plan to deal with years of regulatory failure. Alberta landowners arenโt convinced
In one corner of rural Alberta, landowners are increasingly frustrated as oil lease cheques stop coming. But they're also frustrated with the regulator, with government and with a system that uses tax dollars to bail companies out. #ableg #cdnpoli thenarwhal.ca/alberta-land...

Braid: UCP will decide who can run for office next time; only the "serious" allowed
UCP plans new rules to limit who can run in provincial and civic elections. There's a bill coming soon.
As we're still grappling with recent changes to municipal elections underway TODAY, the Alberta government announced changes to the NEXT elections.
They are to include a provision that "only those who truly care and are serious about representing a community or riding are allowed on the ballot."
