Let’s do another wiki editing live stream the afternoon post-lunch. Again, if I skeet it, I have to do it! 1998 V-Jump issues are calling.

Missed that this started as a one-shot back in the June issue last year. They do a lot of these, where something that shows up as a one-shot comes back 6-12 months later with a full serialization.

It was a little earlier that year (19ish, I think?). That one pictured here is notable for having a special column pre-Cowa (which begins in the following issue) comparing Bubul and Cowa.

Catching up with some Saikyo Jump work…

Our old buddy Hiroshi Otogi from the Dragon Ball Fusions and DeSpo FighterZ manga is back with a new series in the latest issue called TARO.

Freaked out when I saw a big splash on the Dragon Ball Official Site thinking they're about to shut down their 20th site in a row & we'll just lose all that history all over again... but they're just shutting down the app version of it next month. They ARE gonna close comments & other stuff, though.

Thanking my lucky stars that somehow, miraculously, by a divine twist of fate, all of the important Akira Toriyama content from Weekly Shonen Jump in 1997 (Tokimecha, Bubul, Cowa) completely avoids the 1997 No. 34 issue with the debut chapter of One Piece.

Speaking of Osamu Kaneko… confirmed the respective 2003 issues for the end of Slime Daisakusen and beginning of Slime Morimori! I’m juuuuust about done owning and citing the beginning and ending issues for all four Slime series (they ran basically nonstop from 1993 to 2021…!).

It's a full redraw yeah. There's differences in spacing and linework throughout it.

I literally said "This is notable for the kanzenban’s chapter title redraw" right in the post 😅

In my quest to share more about the supporting artists propping up Toriyama’s expanded world of work, I grabbed this FF5 guide with illustrations from V-Jump artists, namely Osamu Kaneko (big DQ artist). Here he’s credited as 金子統 instead of the usual かねこ統. Gotta figure out which cool art is his!

I had the 1988 No. 38 issue for the Mamejiro one shot, and I had the issue before it for its promo and release date… but I wanted to double-check everyone’s work about there being two issues released three days apart from each other: August 9th, 12th, and then 23rd. Gotta read up on why that was!

Here’s the 1989 No. 23 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump with chp 223 & the results of the Catchphrase Grandprix that year (which I need to do more research into overall)… which has the Journey to the West artwork that we all mostly know from the first Daizenshuu! It’s so small in the pullout poster here!
