I very much appreciate this thread!

I have yet to have a book I've written be ready to submit to RevPit when it comes around each year (either because I'm sloooowly writing the first draft or I'm querying).

BUT reading 10 Query Critique posts from the editors is helpful.

I have a synopsis template in my freebie toolkit 👀

So instead of “you have nothing to lose,” I’ll say:

Don’t self-reject

and

You can still benefit from the community + connecting with other querying authors + upcoming fun + games (also the editors are brilliant + genuinely lovely people) even if you ultimately decide not to sub

#RevPit

If you find the #RevPit waiting + games + hype overstimulating, don’t let that you can sub without participating in any of that, and it won’t affect your chances at having your ms chosen

- You mostly care about visibility. I know it’s tempting but fr the showcase is a very small part of #RevPit

- You plan to revise while the editors choose. Winners will get edits on the ms they sub, not an updated draft

- The sense of rejection at not being picked is too much right now

You may not want to sub to #RevPit if…

- You’ll have to rush to finish a 1st draft to have a complete ms. It’s generally better to get some feedback + revise first)

- You don’t have the time/capacity for a deep revision

- You want to know your ms is “ready” more than you think you need to revise

If you’re on the fence about #RevPit, I’m always tempted to say you have nothing to lose + everything to gain. Which is true.

But I also want to acknowledge that there are genuine reasons not to enter. So, I present you:
