Chart demonstrating parallels between Greek/Roman roots and their Chinese counterparts. These roots are used innovatively in English and Japanese respectively.
Lexical borrowing: English uses Latin & Greek for science/tech terms and advanced vocab. Japanese uses 'onyomi' readings of Chinese characters productively for the same effect. This is due to the origin languages being seen as intellectual. Check out the chart I made of classical and Chinese roots!
