24.02.2026 19:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0An edit of mine from 2024. Characters from The Soprano TV show stand in front of the poker table smiling. Text is overlaid on top of the image, reading: "Fact: 90% of posters delete posts right before they're about to get a single interaction". I remember that this font that whatever that meme app used was really annoying to find, as the app closed down by then.

24.02.2026 07:03 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0a screenshot of Black Mesa, the source engine fan remake of Half-Life 1. A couple of vending machines sit next to each other in a nook, a drinks machine emblazoned with a purple bubbly design reading "Rutta Grape" with a snack machine to its right.
A screenshot of the HD Remaster of Shenmue. Ryo peruses a drinks machine, with a choice between Bell Wood's Jet Cola, Fruda Orange, Fruda Grape and Jet Soda.
The same screenshot of Shenmue as the previous, but from the original Japanese Dreamcast release. Ryo's selection is now of a number of licensed Coca-Cola products, including Coca-Cola, Fanta Orange, Fanta Grape and Sprite, all sporting authentic 80s can designs.
I love the "Rutta Grape" in Black Mesa, which I am certain is a reference to "Fruda Grape" from Shenmue (itself a replacement for Fanta Grape after localisation)
23.02.2026 17:05 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0A trio of low-ish poly low-ish texture resolution aluminium cans from Black Mesa. Leftmost one reads "Linux Cola" and has that one drawing of Tux the Penguin on it. Smaller text reads "OpenSauce". Top can on the right reads "Black Mesa Luna" and has an crescent moon edited to look like Black Mesa logo with a bit sticking out towards the center. Bottom can on the right reads "Black Mesa Breweries Lager" and has a 3D gear in the shape of Black Mesa logo on its side? mid-spin? looks sick is the point
Black Mesa is amazing with these details, even just drink cans on their own, was seriously contemplating also posting this one but couldn't find a good place, thank you
23.02.2026 17:18 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The iconic red Half-Life 1 icon, a lambda in a circle, straight from hl.ico, blown up to 800%. As 16-color palette in Windows was predetermined, this icon got compressed to functionally three colors - bright red, dark red and black.
Second icon from the very same hl.ico showing the Half-Life lambda in a circle but in a closer to intended shade of orange with much smoother antialiasing due to 256 available colors.
The icon from Opposing Force expansion. The only available frame in opfor.ico. Also in a 16-color mode with every pixel matching the red one perfectly, just recolored to bright and dark green. This is the only icon in the file, there's no better smoother version.
I love how the "canonical" Half-Life 1 icon is the crunchy 16-color pure red one even though that same .ico file had a proper 256-color version in it, and how Opposing Force (and maybe original retail Blue Shift too, they changed it since) also used it as a base and didn't embed a better one

23.02.2026 12:47 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A book shelf from the infamous No Russian mission in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. There are several copyright-free cover designs of real books with a random stock photo and plain text, such as "The Sign of [the] Four" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, The Mysterious Island, The Wizard of Oz, The Jungle Book, and "Π‘Π»ΠΎΠ²Π°ΡΡ Π‘Π°ΡΠ°Π½Ρ" (which is apparently a real book called The Devil's Dictionary). There's also a massive cover for the book Butt Ugly, which is also a real book and the real cover that was used for it in the real world.
The real life cover for the book "Butt Ugly" written by Lynn Montgomery and illustrated by Terrie Redding. It features a crosseyed green dog taking half of the space.
looking closely at background props that fill out game worlds is one of the top little joys of videogames
tangentially related shoutout to MW2 for featuring "Butt Ugly" in the bookshop which apparently is a Real Book
A screenshot from Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines with two drink vending machines. The one on the left is yellow and features a massive number "13", drink selection buttons labeled, in order: "Thirteen", "Yello Sno", "SEXXX", "Triple Team" and "Dirty SancheZ". The one on the right is purple and has an upside down pentagram, "Liquid Demon Seed" is written underneath it. Buttons are: "Babalu", "Seed", "ExTaaSee", "RHONDO" and "dank stank".
A snack vending machine next to a lit soda vending machine from Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. Soda machine has a grey-ish can of soda with orange-ish text saying "ΠΠΈΡΡΠ΅ ΠΊΠΎΠ»Π°" ("beverage cola") partially submerged in a blue bubbling water as often is the case with soda machine designs. Unique buttons read: "ΠΠΎΠ»ΡΠ±Π°Ρ Π²ΠΎΠ΄Π°" ("blue water"), "ΠΏΠΈΡΡΠ΅ ΠΊΠΎΠ»Π°", "ΡΠΈΠΏΡΡΠΊΠ° ΡΠΎΠ΄Ρ" ("fizzing [of the] soda"), "ΠΎΡΠ²Π΅ΠΆΠ°ΡΡ" ("[to] freshen"). Soap MacTavish, likely thirsty, is captivated by the machine with his mouth slightly agape.
From SiN Episodes: Episode 1 - Emergence, two glowing soda vending machines next to each other. One has a deeply saturated red caustic water surface pattern with the text reading "Hammer Cola" on it. The other one is purple, has a water drop concentric ripples with an unlabeled bottle of liquid in front of it. Huge text on the very top in white plain Times New Roman reads: "Grape Drink". Smaller text in the same style to the right of the bottle reads: "who knew it could be SO GOOD". Buttons are unreadable for both.
A vending machine from The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe. A striking red open aluminium can is floating in front of a stream of very light blue water, text on the can reads "TASTE THE SEQUEL". As a part of the design, top right corner of the front panel is covered by a massive pure red label reading "NEW & TASTY". Buttons are mostly unreadable from this screenshot.

23.02.2026 12:20 β π 58 π 11 π¬ 6 π 0While taking screenshots accidentally loaded into what I assume is the "base" version of the level that lacks mission-specific color correction so thought might also be interesting to see
22.02.2026 18:37 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Another quick comparison, this one's between MW's famous All Ghillied Up level and its MW2 coop counterpart Hunted. Likely because you play this (part of the) level backwards in MW2, sunlight direction was seemingly also flipped 180 degrees as can be seen by long tree shadows
22.02.2026 18:37 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Screenshot of the starting location from the level Hunted in Call of Duty Modern Warfare. A helicopter wreck is on fire against a black tree amidst yellowish grass at night.
Exact same scene from the Modern Warfare 2's level Overwatch. Overall palette is more warm and saturated, making grass look more orange than yellow, and the tree is now properly lit.
Later scene from Hunted. A foggy field of grass at night. Some hay bales grouped near each other. Asphalt road is visible behind wooden fence in the background with some buildings on both sides. The road is lit with a cold white light from really tall street lamps.
Same scene from Overwatch. Everything is slightly darker and warmer, maybe even with a tint of green. Previously cold white street lights now have a distinct pale yellow tone to them.
Replaying both CoD MW and MW2 so got curious about visual differences between the campaign level Hunted from MW and its port / coop version Overwatch from MW2 and took a couple of screenshots

Now that your reputation is secure, give swift word to friends and allies to come and join you in the fight!"
Honestly kinda fucked up that AoE2 HD had an achievement locked behind preordering the game

Text bubble on the bottom is typed using a "Hey Gorgeous" font, styled after somewhat cartoony handwriting, and reads as follows: "You've completed basic training in Papa's Freezeria! Try this next order on your own!"
A screenshot from LongplayArchive's playthrough of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Text on the top is typed using Fontworks' Pop Joy font, visually identical to "Hey Gorgeous" with the latter being a clone of the former, and reads: "You can press [X] to protect yourself from the objects the audience throws at you."
A sample sheet of Pop Joy, showing Latin alphabet, numbers from 0 to 9 and some characters. There are many, many more characters that this font covers, including Extended Latin, Greek and Cyrillic, and of course hiragana, katakana and kanji.
A sample sheet of Pop Joy, showing Latin alphabet, numbers from 0 to 9 and some characters. This is basically the extent of the font, as it doesn't even support parentheses or brackets. Some irregularities are noticeable, like weirdly straight sections on contours as opposed to consistently smooth curves of Pop Joy and a "pimple" on the left side of K, similar to artefacts of automatic vectorization.
Really amused by the fact that Papa Louie's Deluxe games use a free (potentially autotraced?) clone of Fontworks' Pop Joy (as popularized by Paper Mario TTYD among other things) called "Hey Gorgeous" from 2006
