I love the #eurips initiative! But to live up to its potential, it should be accepted an official #neurips conference location (similar to Mexico City) and not just an addon! Then we would save C02, rather than adding to it!!! What can we do to achieve this?

Right on point, imo this is what should be guiding the current discussion on large ML conferences (and in particular NeurIPS/EurIPS).

Awesome initiative 🎉
This leaves me wondering though: how come authors attending #EurIPS still have to register for the main #NeurIPS (in the Americas) for their paper to be considered accepted?
You stopped so short of actually allowing ML researchers to fly less!

In theory I agree, in practice I find it hard to connect at a conference with >10k participants. Besides I am not aware of another venue similar to Eurips to create connections at a European level, so I think it's very welcome (and am looking forward to expand my network beyond France/Switzerland)

The unsustainability of long distance flights to conferences is a valid concern. Clearly, meeting international experts is important for high-level research, but dynamic regional events to supplement huge monolithic conferences might even make that easier. We need more experiments like EurIPS asap.

I have been several times in the gray zone of registering w/o attending, just to comply with the rules. Really not ideal (esp for researchers w little funding). Neurips was a rare exception where virtual registration was enough. It's a real setback if they change that rule.

Why do you think allowing authors to present in Copenhagen is detrimental to the Mexico venue? Imo those meetings are complementary, not in competition. This being said, I'd love to see more parallel venues in the future, in particular in places with less visa issues, after the Copenhagen+Mexico exp

eurips.cc A NeurIPS-endorsed conference in Europe held in Copenhagen, Denmark

NeurIPS is endorsing EurIPS, an independently-organized meeting which will offer researchers an opportunity to additionally present NeurIPS work in Europe concurrently with NeurIPS.

My understanding is that the current policy is that at least one author should register to NeurIPS in San Diego/Mexico, and on top of this other authors can optionally present in Copenhagen.

🌍 Would be better if authors were allowed to present at officially endorsed hubs or online instead — ensuring fair and equitable participation, and ultimately creating a better NeurIPS for everyone.

🚨 At the same time, NeurIPS now requires at least one author to register in person to the main conference. Virtual registration was enough before.

✈️ Many can’t travel to San Diego/Mexico due to limited funding, disabilities, caregiving responsibilities, visa restrictions, or climate concerns.

🇪🇺EurIPS features NeurIPS papers, keynotes, and workshops (consider submitting a workshop!) in Copenhagen during NeurIPS.

🙏 Huge thanks to @neuripsconf.bsky.social & @ellis.eu for making this possible. EurIPS will boost scientific exchange while cutting travel barriers and carbon emissions.

✨Thrilled to see EurIPS launch — the first officially endorsed European NeurIPS presentation venue!

👀 But NeurIPS now requires at least one author to attend in San Diego or Mexico (and not just virtually as before). This is detrimental to many. Why not allow presenting at EurIPS or online?

EurIPS is coming! 📣 Mark your calendar for Dec. 2-7, 2025 in Copenhagen 📅

EurIPS is a community-organized conference where you can present accepted NeurIPS 2025 papers, endorsed by @neuripsconf.bsky.social and @nordicair.bsky.social and is co-developed by @ellis.eu

Zelensky is a wartime leader watching his people suffer and die under Russian attacks every day. To be lectured and lied to by Trump and Vance, as they defend the war criminal dictator committing these atrocities, is unimaginable agony. An everlasting shame for America.

My home institution @ipparis.bsky.social might soon recruit tenure-track researchers in AI. It's a 4-year contract with a decent salary and starting package. Keywords: machine learning, optimization, game theory, with applications to transport & mobility. Please reach out in DM if interested.
