I think it does get overlooked that the Lennon who was a complete dickhead and junkie mess in 1970 was a considerably different fella by 1980. I don't think he gets analysed enough in his last years.

I mean at the same time, John Lennon with 80's sounding music production might be blessed miss.

I am always perversely amused by his love for Coronation Street if only for the visual of him watching it intently.

What is funny though, is that even if he lost his mind, went Qanon and into god knows what, I bet he'd still think Russell Brand was a cunt.

I think he'd have just got old and disappointing. The Epstein Files would have melted his fucking mind.

It's always the more traditional comedy of his that I really loved. 'The door is ajar' and his drill exaggerated southern accent in that bit really cracks me up still.

In a way given the cruel timing of his illness I'd excuse some of his bitterness, especially as he avoided actually speaking about what was up with him. It was probably a real head fuck for him. Including the career timing of it too, it sucked. That story of his last gig is genuinely sad.

Yeah, you do sort of grow out of him, but he has enough to still really enjoy as a craftsman. He's like the comedy version of The Doors.

But absolutely none of the humour or the occasional self awareness to take the piss out of himself.

I reckon so too, though I genuinely think he'd probably be quite amusing about his approach to it. I never enjoyed when he'd get 'angry.'

Much like Hicks, I don't 'enjoy' Lee as much as I should because his fanbase and the sort of slight cultish arrogance of them. That's totally on me though.

There's lots of great bits Hicks did that aged well, but it's mostly bits where he's just being a very funny comedian and less on the pulpit.

Some of it is still absolutely brilliant, but with some you just grow up and out of it. But also some of it has understandably aged a bit.

It wouldn't have hurt IMO because it wouldn't have been a surprise, it would have been a gradual slide and would just feel like wasted potential... Or old age.

It would have either been a career revival or maybe even for it as some sort of outsider art approach.

He'd have done my fucking head in had lived for 9/11 though... And I wouldn't have put it past him to go completely out of his tree eventually.
