Unfortunately, ACL is not currently recognized as a Chinese entity, and invitation letters issued by ACL therefore cannot be guaranteed for use in F visa applications. We therefore strongly recommend exploring visa-free entry, transit visas, or a tourist (L) visas before considering an F visa.

At the moment, there are three options for attendees:
- Visa-free entry: short-term entry without a visa is allowed for citizens of several countries
- Transit visa: for travelers passing through China en route to a third country
- Tourist visa (L): is available to applicants from all countries

To everyone in the #EMNLP2025 community, we are aware of the issue regarding delays in responses to visa requests, and are actively working to find a viable solution to the visa invitation letter issue.

Previously, affinity groups like Queer in AI, Black in AI, Masakhane, LatinX in AI, and North Africans in NLP have organized socials and workshops in *CL conferences, and we welcome all proposals!

An affinity group is a collective of researchers formed around a shared interest or common goal, to promote and support the ideas and voices of underrepresented groups, and raise awareness of issues that affect their members.

In addition to welcoming a broad range of BoF proposals, we are especially looking for BoF’s related to the conference theme: Interdisciplinary Recontextualization of NLP

A birds-of-a-feather event is an informal discussion group to explore a specific topic of interest, including but not limited to research areas, career development, etc.

Typically, workshop organizers receive one free registration code that they can use as they think best (e.g., for one of the organizers, for an invited speaker, etc). That should also be the case here, and hopefully your team has already received that code!

Yes, as a workshop organizer, you will need to register if are planning on attending. Invitation letters are typically issued once someone has registered for in-person attendance. There are many questions about this at the moment, which is likely why those you have emailed have been slow to respond.
