yeah but its complicated. i host my own user account, but because thats just "part" of bluesky, bluesky can ban me and i cant do jack or shit (though my data will still exist). people are maybe trying to host the parts that power it being "social" instead of just "media" tho

ideally sites just dont suck, but if you post objectionable content or want to be on a site where your friends who post objectionable content are welcome, youre kinda forced to read the community guidelines OTL (which bsky makes very hard to do...)

(fun fact: the draft for the community guideline changes had a line that banned sfw age gap [ship] art. they removed it, But.)(they also used to explicitly ban violent artwork, and i dont believe for a second they wont find an excuse for why the new tos still bans it lol)

not that this isnt a bad rule and something people should be aware and maybe even leave over, but this has been in the rules like. the whole time. they just rephrased it. bluesky has been banning Objectionable Art since before it was cool and without any specific outside pressure to 👍

I've had to make the switch to relying solely on comms for much needed income to survive. My mom and I are currently trying to move house on our own and she also has a vital surgery coming up. The expenses for moving alone are endless and we really need some help.

oh yeah this is the game i was sitting on as "the game that isnt on steam that i care the LEAST about" ahaha. well, people are happy, and now the bar for the least exciting game they could remaster is higher lol

i love that literally every person who dislikes melees gravitates to nin because it is Indeed most like a ranged. you still have to be in melee range but. the job design is like a ranged 👍 nin seeks to answer the question "what if a ranged job wasnt truly ranged"

i think you can argue some of the big sync providers have the same danger except. absolute worst case scenario its easier to set up automated backups if you have a local copy lol

i like syncthing for my syncing but it requires you to be willing to figure out nerd software

i think its like. 50/50 sheer inertia and like. the convenience factor? but you can replicate most of the convenience with just a little bit of effort. just gotta find software that works on all the devices you write on & figure out how youll sync things

im going to be real i think if people are scared about losing their work they should use an offline writing program and use a separate sync program so that worst case scenario their files are still on their harddrive

like thats tangential but. it just strikes me as short-sighted
