Absolutely mental that we’re back in the doom and gloom and it’s still only August. It’s not even 2 weeks ago that I was feeling mildly optimistic after the Arsenal game. The interviews and body language from Amorim last night were somehow worse than the performance and result, how does he recover?!

Definitely need to start mixing it up a bit more and use his height to our advantage both inside and outside the box. He’s got great feet for a big man too mind.

Want him to do well of course but it’s a big concern that we started very well and Silva made a few tweaks and then we found it hard going. Corners absolutely terrifying with Altay. Relying on Sesko to get going sooner rather than later to transform the team and get us playing higher up the pitch.

Concerning from Ruben today. Same issues. Midfield was a mess. A frustrating watch too. Cunha post, should have done better when Leno saved, the penalty… we lost our heads after that.

With the games we have coming up after Burnley I really felt like we needed to win today to get some momentum going

I wanted to sign Raya when De Gea was clearly off so that performance from him rankles. For his size that is unacceptable from Altay, 6 foot 6 and getting bullied 🤦🏻‍♂️

Cunha and Mbuemo very lively, very determined, lots of good play between them as a pair and individually. Mount good too but hopefully Sesko is ready to start soon, and players can play off him, quiet cameo from him today so might take a bit of time.

Also positive from Shaw and Casemiro I thought, shame they couldn’t do 90, particularly with Ugarte coming on fouling, taking potshots and passing backwards to an Arsenal player.

Got pelters on here last year when I said De Ligt had been disappointing. Today was much more like what I expect of him.

Should have scored, could have won. Didn’t. Still plenty to be encouraged about. On to the next one.
