Thinking of situations where I don’t mind epithets (e.g. “the taller man”) in prose:
- the character’s actual name is unknown
- if known, the epithet conveys something about how the POV character/narrator sees & categorizes that character
Otherwise I personally find it too distracting.

I can appreciate their attempts to warn new fans about NG (I agree that we need to look out for each other & not let him back into our spaces, now that we know some of his victims were fans). But the blog’s focus on a fictional kiss between fictional characters to make this point is… not great, huh

I love that he’s a 6000-year-old supernatural celestial being with the power to produce extraordinary miracles but he gets so much genuine delight from (badly) performing simple human magic tricks.
I love that he is the only angel who dances.
His pleasure in silliness says so much about him.

Aziraphale and Crowley are on a walk around Soho with their small toddler. I’m a younger Millennial, and I’ve seen a bit of Cheers with my parents, and I can appreciate that it was a cultural touchstone. But Golden Girls is on another level entirely!
And being such a queer cult classic, it makes sense for Crowley to be attached to it
