Screenshot of a book cover showing an illustration of a crow perched on an "ICE" jacket lying in the middle of a snow-lined road under the light of a full moon. The cover reads "ICE Out " by Charles de Lint. Text to the right of the cover reads "ICE came to Newford. Big mistake." and "Download for free!"
Urban fantasy author Charles de Lint just published a new "novelet" and released it for free, his stories of myth and magic and community and found family are full of so much love and hope and we could all use some of that right now

Your post & website submission guidelines say up to 10,000 words for retold tails , but the Moksha submission says the limit is 5000 words for the reprint category and rejects any word count over 5000.
Is this a technical glitch or are reprints capped at 5000, too?

It's really a regional/generational thing here and perhaps not surprisingly usually at places with seaside boardwalks - thinking of you Coney Island - and the like. Vinegar is not a ubiquitous condiment across the US

Sitting around, waiting for polyurethane to dry...
One of these days I'm going to do a thread about how my writing "process" is a lot like my approach to refinishing projects - one being I leave space at the start for a lot different possibilities and they narrow as the project nears completion

Guidelines
Kaleidotrope will re-open to fiction and poetry submissions on April 19. (It's currently open to artwork submissions.)
I should say that stories accepted this year have a very good chance of being published next year. Meanwhile, poems accepted this year might be published as early as this year.

Vintage Books Live! Reads Animal Noir
YouTube video by Vintage Books
Last night's reading for Animal Noir was essentially a virtual launch event. It was so fun. The snippets of stories everyone read were unique and tantalizing. I haven't read the book yet myself, but it's up next on my TBR.
But I encourage you to take a look and listen to the recording below.

The origin of Animal Noir is a strange one. It started with some silly jokes about killer geese on a Discord server until someone said, "Hey this could be a book." Well, that silly dream has become reality. This book features my story, "Two Sides of the Truth."

A pen and ink illustration of an anthropomorphic rabbit in a suit, holding the skull of a small rodent in one raised hand. The rabbit has splatters of blood on her shirt and face. The text reads "Animal Noir, The Perfect Victim, by megan lee bees"
The front cover of an anthology reading Animal Noir: anthropomorphic noir mysteries, edited by Elizabeth Mitchell. The cover has a number of photographed animal heads superimposed over human bodies in limited pallets, with a muted city scape behind them
My wicked rabbit makes her debut in Animal Noir, out tomorrow with Little Key Press!! That skull is her writing partner and accomplice, and they'll do anything for the cat she loves.
