Truth. It's happening slowly, but it's happening. "Never in human history has an ideology like socialism come with so many body bags," says a friend of mine. Well, we're seeing that fascism can be just as violent. And *democratic* socialism need not be violent at all.

As we've seen from Bezos, Zuckerberg, Cook, and most other corporate billionaires, they'll side with fascist dictators every time when it means adding another $20 billion to their net wealth.

I worked at a large center school for students with severe disabilities. Probably 8 out of 10 of the staff there voted for Trump. If what you predict here comes true, and these kids lose the services they so desperately need, there will be an incredible outpouring of anger and disgust.

And show us how it would make any difference in a deep blue state like Illinois even if they could.

Why not? Because there are strings attached. Even his dumbest supporters (e.g. Loomer and Greene) understand this.

Poor guy. He's on the Trump Train, not knowing why he's there or where he's going, just repeating the talking points. 100 trade deals will happen soon, he seems to think. Can't wait to see how much "better" these trade deals are than what we had before. Meanwhile, the damage is already done.

Watching him on Larry Kudlow's show was nauseating. They spent a full five minutes going on about how Biden wrecked the economy. Meanwhile, everyone can see that the stock market was rising since October of 2023, and has gone sideways since January 20th of this year.

He's impressive to Trump, and that's what worries me. He's good looking, well dressed, and fabulously rich. Those are the only three qualities Trump really notices or cares about. My fear is that he will do everything Bessent tells him to do, until it's too late. Like... after a global trade war.

It's like making your little brothers kick the guy you don't like.

Bessent can't be THAT ignorant about the economic chaos doing so would cause. I think they'll pressure Canada and Mexico to implement tariffs on China, and add another 10% themselves, which they believe our economy can handle. 25% on our neighbors would cause a recession that would cripple Trump.

And yet he has said nothing to calm investors' nerves! Presumably this is b/c he needs to "show he means business" with these countries, but the uncertainty alone is causing a potentially devastating drop in consumer confidence.

I agree. I think they know we can't stifle trade with all three countries and not have economic chaos. Mexico will definitely capitulate to their demands, and Canada probably will, also. Both will put tariffs on China as part of the deal. But 20% on Chinese goods will hurt consumers... a lot.

I dunno, but the word "fentanyl" will come up at some point in his justification. Meanwhile, we have no data as to how much it has (or hasn't) actually been curtailed.

He used to post about it all the time, but hasn't for quite a while now. Is it because he doesn't care if it tanks? I can't imagine that. He has to know that he will lose most of his popularity and political power if his tariffs cause a sustained downturn in the stock market.

So you think Wednesday's profit report from NVIDIA will be a good one, I take it. I see too many downsides. Its valuation is so high, and there's little room (or appetite) for disappointments.

It has the potential to tank the NASDAQ.

Maybe that's why NVIDIA stock has been steadily climbing the past week or two. They still have monopoly power.

I can't believe Asia doesn't have an NVIDIA-level chip manufacturer of its own.

Or maybe they'll recognize that because electricity is their lifeblood and because climate change will hurt us but not them, they'll invent ways to accelerate global warming to kill us off us annoying humans. 😮

But wasn't the point of the project to get AI to run on cheap GPUs instead of NVIDIA H100s? China just demonstrated they can. DeepSeek the #1 app in the App Store already. I don't see how this is anything but a huge win for China.

It is. Less than $5 million to create. Pennies, basically.

And yes, it could. Why spend a fortune on American AI and expensive GPUs when you can get the same results for a fraction of the cost? Truly a game-changing development.

Will markets forget? If they get some really big positive news, like an unexpected rate cut.

Will it be forgotten? Hell no. This has changed the game fundamentally.

There are innumerable applications for it, to be sure, but the benefits to America's economy do not match the trillions in valuations that have been added to tech companies. Those valuations were based upon the idea that we will have a monopoly on AI for many years. Well, surprise....

Great point. So far it's been largely about *owning* the shiny new thing, and not how to *use* the shiny new thing. Now that we know we clearly don't own it, much of the momentum in tech companies has been lost. It was all about exclusivity, in other words, and not about utilization.

Well, not American tech companies, because most of the huge gains they have seen the past couple of years have been predicated upon the belief that America has a corner on the AI market. As it turns out, we don't. China doesn't need our expensive chips or models.

I can foresee only a few ways: 1) Trump backs WAY down on his tariff and deportation threats. 2) He pressures Jerome Powell into lowering rates. 3) He cuts taxes so severely we run the largest deficit ever.
