Huge positive news for the React community.
React and React Native are moving out of Meta and into Linux Foundation.

While it is uncommon to see the output tag being used the wild, this article outlines some use cases for it.

most social platforms decide what you see. we think you should have control when you want it.
Custom Feeds are a step toward that vision — what do you like about them today? what feels clunky or missing?

Then again, it's not massive contributions to massive projects, but it's the tiny things that annoy me in the software I use.
I've been finding coding fun, and I wanna do more of it, and that's what matters :)

The one centralized holdout is Bluesky, which will either need to be decentralized or may be the next right-wing target over this year
Thanks so much for your interest! FYI the app is NOT available yet. I hope to start an open Testflight beta next week and will post the invite here.

Sure, not everyone needs to be a webdev wizard, a WIX or Squarespace page is fine, but I miss surfing the web seeing others' spaces and not just a linktree of socials

@dansup.bsky.social has considered Bluesky compatibility for Pixelfed, but decided against implementing it.
As of now, there isn't an Instagram style app for the AT Protocol.
I love the Fish shell writeup on their Rewrite-it-in-Rust journey. It's really nuanced: there's some good, some bad, some introspection on their own mistakes.
But most importantly: they did it! 2604 commits over ~two years of work across > 200 authors. Ship ship ship!

If it was in use for 26 years, dont rewrite it, it was being tested for 26 years. If it was not being used for 26 years, dont rewrite it , it wont be used for another 26 years.

We saw tons of progress on Elixir's type system in 2024. We started the year with a Best Paper award, then Elixir v1.17 in May with data-type warnings, and now Elixir v1.18 with type checking + inference on function calls.
Today I started working on v1.19, I'll share more here as it progresses!
It’s completely fair to ask for safety, and maybe a ban is the right call in this case. But if it’s always left in the hands of the Bluesky team, they will become a single point of failure, whether by financial pressures or political or whatever.
