We're coming to the point where decentralized social media contains the only structures we have left that aren't completely controlled by hard-right interests

The one centralized holdout is Bluesky, which will either need to be decentralized or may be the next right-wing target over this year

I wish people would make their own websites again! A personal page, fandom page, a space to showcase their creations and hobbies. Sure, not everyone needs to be a webdev wizard, a WIX or Squarespace page is fine, but I miss surfing the web seeing others' spaces and not just a linktree of socials

As of now, there isn't an Instagram style app for the AT Protocol.

I love the Fish shell writeup on their Rewrite-it-in-Rust journey. It's really nuanced: there's some good, some bad, some introspection on their own mistakes.

But most importantly: they did it! 2604 commits over ~two years of work across > 200 authors. Ship ship ship!

We saw tons of progress on Elixir's type system in 2024. We started the year with a Best Paper award, then Elixir v1.17 in May with data-type warnings, and now Elixir v1.18 with type checking + inference on function calls.

Today I started working on v1.19, I'll share more here as it progresses!
