Some of my friends made the cookbook based on the #ttrpg I wrote. I don't even know what to say, I'm touched, proud, honoured, and a little confused.
All ttrpg settings should be accompanied by a cookbook. It adds flavour.πΆοΈ

Ok, letβs replace everything with a coin toss.
04.08.2025 10:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Do it lasers and feelings style. Only 1 stat.
04.08.2025 10:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Clearly RPGs should only ever be trapped in the wild or stolen in some hijinks.
04.08.2025 09:48 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 055) As a serial hijinks indulger, I should stop casting stone in my glass house.
04.08.2025 08:57 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 054) The story games wouldnβt need to be so heavy handed with their rulesets if players werenβt so quick to indulge in hijinks.
04.08.2025 08:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 053) Story games trying to tell different kinds of stories are good, actually.
04.08.2025 08:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I apologise for my 50 post rant about people named Oisin yesterday.
It wasβ¦. About a different Oisin.
52) Bluesky is a pretty terrible place for ttrpg discourse. But no one under 40 is willing to use a forum anymore, so weβre stuck with it.
03.08.2025 21:58 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 2 π 051) There are 4 hobbies:
- Playing ttrpgs
- Buying ttrpgs
- Designing ttrpgs
- Arguing online about ttrpgs
50) Third-party and fan content is such a healthy part of a TTRPG community. If people are making content for your game, then theyβre enjoying your game.
03.08.2025 21:02 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 049) Every GM should try sitting down at a table full of their friends and running something when they are woefully underprepared. It teaches you a ton about what sort of prep you do and don't need to do.
(Warning: It may also give you nightmares)
48) If you are running a mostly improved game, and the players come up with a theory that's WAY cooler than the thing you had, there's nothing to stop you from just seizing that idea and running with it.
03.08.2025 19:57 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 1 π 047) If an action isn't going to succeed regardless of the result, warn players before they roll the die.
03.08.2025 19:57 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 2 π 046) If you can't think of a fun consequence for a failed roll, consider not calling for a roll.
03.08.2025 19:57 β π 7 π 1 π¬ 1 π 045) People looking to play βhistorically accurateβ games are mostly looking to say racist & sexist shit without consequences.
03.08.2025 19:51 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 2 π 044) I love horror games, but Kult? That thing scares me
03.08.2025 19:44 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 2 π 043) The X card is good, actually. And its existence at your table communicates your values, meaning that you probably wonβt have to use the x card.
03.08.2025 19:44 β π 7 π 1 π¬ 1 π 042) The problem with building so much of the indie ttrpg scene around kickstarter is that shovelware is really easy to sell on kickstarter.
03.08.2025 19:44 β π 5 π 1 π¬ 1 π 041) If you replaced every dice roll in your game with a coin toss, then it would make rolling obscure skills way easier
03.08.2025 19:44 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 040) I'm constantly surprised we don't think about Game Theory more when talking about decision making in ttrpgs.
03.08.2025 17:51 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 1 π 039) If your theoretical model of ttrpgs is looking at the rules of the game, how players interact with the rules, and isn't talking about how humans interact socially, you should probably be studying board games.
03.08.2025 17:51 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 1 π 038) When I was younger and we played mostly dnd, both myself and a few of my friends would 'cheat' the game by faking dice rolls.
Since moving away from dnd, I haven't had the urge to do it once. I'm pretty sure some of them still do it. I think it's to do with the play cultures we are in.
37) Another bit of play theory is that it lets us explore who we are by trying on different identities in a safe environment.
You might start to spot a pattern with ttrpgs here.
36) An important part of play theory involves kids accomplishing their desires through playing pretend (riding a broom instead of a horse).
Which is to say we're all just kids playing pretend and I love that about ttrpgs.
35) My other much loved ttrpg discourse thing is when someone explains to you how theyβre going to βfix 5eβ and make millions.
03.08.2025 16:41 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 2 π 034) My favourite kind of ttrpg discourse is when someone pulls out the no true Scotsman fallacy and suddenly we have to argue over who is and isnβt a real game designer.
03.08.2025 16:39 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 1 π 033) The point of making weird little indie ttrpgs isn't to play them. The point of making weird little indie ttrpgs is to make weird little indie ttrpgs.
03.08.2025 14:16 β π 9 π 1 π¬ 1 π 032) Critical Roll is really really slow and I don't get why it's so popular. (Is it the character voices? It might be the character voices)
03.08.2025 12:20 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Yep. Agree.
