In discussion we spoke about the ethics of using AI, if a journalist reports on fake images created with AI that are affecting people or an individual in a style that makes them seem real, is it spreading the truth or is it more on the side of spreading misinformation to the public? #UWJ201 #317

A solution could be encouraging journalists to adopt peace journalism practices that focus on context and voices of marginalized groups rather than conflict. Media literacy education can also help the public assess bias in reporting and demand more balanced coverage. #UWJ201 #317

Deplatforming influential figures can reduce the spread of hate speech by limiting their reach and visibility as well as their fans'. It might also push harmful ideas to less-regulated platforms like Reddit, making them harder to monitor. Its effectiveness often depends on context. #UWJ201 #317

Conspiracies are the most shared theories in today's world and my question is: Is it just related to people needing to experience certain events themselves to truly believe it or is it the simple neglection since they find themselves not in powerful positions of governmental hierarchy? #UWJ201 #317

Great question, some reasons people might deeply rely on conspiracy theories could be a need for certainty or control over information, pattern recognition, distrust in institutions or as simple as justifying actions. It's definitely true in that sense you mentioned-for justification. #UWJ201 #317

I feel that misinformation is shared more often. It's from those who believe what they’re sharing is true. It spreads easily through social media when it aligns with people’s existing beliefs. Prevention can include improving digital literacy and encouraging trusted information sources. #UWJ201 #317

Both, but clarity does come after the content. When natural disasters or even artificial ones occur, the media needs people to pay attention to what they're saying before they reveal what actually happened. To get this inital attention, the media no doubt produces content first. #UWJ201 #317

From a sports perspective, I'd have to say no since politics based on liberal versus conservative arguments mostly don't exist in the world of sports , but in my opinion, following the right accounts on social media may get you facts from both sides - better than a newspaper could. #UWJ201 #317

When we see ads shaming Brad Schimel for what he's done in the past, how much effect do you think it really has on changing the opinions and perspectives of Wisconsin's right-wing population, which is more in number considering the state has swung red in the past 12 months? #UWJ201 #317

We spoke about media bias and how it really occurs within a functioning society. There were many reasons but I am curious, do you think the media is biased more beacuse of its ownership like Murdoch (being right-winged) with FOX or is it intrinsic within the choice of the people? #UWJ201 #317

During public health crises like COVID-19, many media sources tried to balance expert opinions with anti-vaccine arguments. Although, scientists supported vaccination, giving space to opposing voices because of "fairness" caused public confusion and hesitation towards public health. #UWJ201 #317

In my opinion, we live in an era full of misinformation in the media and people can really become desensitized and distrustful of all media even if it turns out accurate. Althought, once trust is gone, even factually correct stories provided by journalists are met with skepticism. #UWJ201 #317

In the lecture we had on Wednesday about digital media, 5.7 billion people use social media with 7.5 hours of media consumption daily, a third of which is multitasked, how might this excessive screen time impact mental health, productivity, and the quality of real-life relationships? #UWJ201 #317

I agree with you. This is a common issue in Western countries and societies. People depend on technology too much and not spending time to learn about it has created large percentages of technological illterate populations. This poses as a threat as AI rises and new generations grow. #UWJ201 #317

I feel that that these relationships would be formed behind screen and keyboards and people might be more open and hence reckless with the way they communicate with each other. Digital media has a lot of potential, depending on the person, to make great or utterly destroy relationships. #UWJ201 #317

The elderly have a fair understanding of how the outside world works due to extensive experience, so can the media still make places like where they live look more violent to them than it truly is using new methods of the Mean World Syndrome to grab attention from such a demographic? #UWJ201 #317

Many people think that Latin America is filled with cartels and drugs, the Middle-East with violent Islamic tendencies and misogyny, USA with gun violence, the UK with knife crime and India with disregard for hygene. The media preys on negative aspects of places to get the attention of viewers.

As an international student, I can confidently say that the gun crime and drug problem that is persistent in the U.S. still plays in my mind when I watch or read the news pertaining to this country's social issues. Changing how the media shows us what it does seems to be the key to a better future.

If they had to choose only one framing technique, the side that isn't benefitted by what they are saying would stop watching that news outlet completely I feel. Loss of viewership from one domain of political supporters could lead to the assumption that that news outlet is politically biased.

I'd definitely say pro-Palestine movements that gained a lot of traction, not only among adults but mostly among university students. Even here in Madison, students were threatened by the police to shut down their protests and remove their protest camps. That's when you know things got serious.

Do you truly believe the freedom of press is often shunned by governmental power in this country? Because then the label of democracy fades away and people might be inclined to move out of the US, which is somewhat bad for foreign relations if other countries don't accept American immigrants.

In the paper by CoreSight, it encourages the use of AI in personalising ads and effectiveness in collecting huge amounts of data. If this is the case, will people who want to do sales and marketing not be needed anymore in the workforce as AI no doubt will develop over the coming years? #UWJ201 #317

Today we discussed the numerous ways ads of different deacdes can capture the attention of a variety of audiences. I wonder, how will utilizing AI help companies make advertisements that capture audiences of all ages, all races, all ethnicities at once? Would it start out stereotypical? #UWJ201 #317

Well color can convey a variety of emotions within people when they set their eyes upon it. Imagine seeing a bright red headline in the midst of all black ones, you'd feel a sense of urgency towards reading its content and feeling fear since we're programmed to connect redness and negative emotions.

Yeah that resonates with me. I feel like I would fully trust and even indulge in persoanlized ads more from trusted companies that I regularly purchase items from or have seen to be credible in past experiences. Knowing the ownership status would hardly change anything drastically in my opinion.

CONTD. For a website called factcheck.org, the Annenberg Foundation funds them and according to www.influencewatch.org/non-profit/a..., the people of Annenberg foundation follow liberal causes-clearly to the left.

Well, fact-checking itself is a type of service to the organization that fact checkers are working for. As any service is paid for, it heavily depends on who exactly is paying them to fact check.

My question is, isn't 'Interpretation' by the news beneficial for audiences since along with interpretations of events, they provide context and explanations for said events, which would be otherwise hidden if audiences were left to interepret for themselves? #UWJ201 #317
