And because we now share these opinions via the medium of casual writing, there’s no way of knowing if the writer earnestly believes the bloke down the pub or is actually taking the piss out of him

Mind you, there’s not much difference between Brave & Hants cricket these days as both teams are owned by the same people anyway!

The steady increase in Vipers and now Hants Women attendance is interesting. But no-one knows if that’s due to the Hundred or just Hants marketing because the ECB hasn’t bothered to try & find out

It seems interesting that the new fans generally seem to be families & women rather than men. And I’d assume these fans are more likely to then take an interest in women’s cricket than men’s (especially as a lot of Blast cricket is now a booze-fest)

Seems a little weird to compare this series to one way back in 2005 when T20 cricket had barely just been invented. I’d be interested to see how the average duration of 5-match Test series has varied over the past 20 years and whether this series is actually “crammed” compared to previous ones

Although there’s obviously quite a difference between having evidence that it *hasn’t* attracted new fans to other formats and not having attempted to look for that evidence. There is clearly a vastly different audience for the Hundred compared to all other formats which must have some impact

After getting bowled out for 305 and still not scoring enough runs, I’m not sure a deliberate strike rate would be top of Lottie’s wish list right now. But being a leftie would certainly help…

Unless women’s cricket is on a roll after England win the World Cup?! 🙏🏻

Because they couldn’t fit it in before the 100 this year. But next year India are here for the T20i tri-series with NZ and the World Cup anyway and there’s time to fit it in.

Sadly I suspect England aren’t yet ready to cap someone with the lowest strike rate of the top 10 batters in the One Day Cup, and who captains a team that haven’t won a game since the start of May 😔

I think most teams would be happy scoring over 300 in a 50 over game. The England score has been beaten 3 times this season: when Capsey scored a ton, Dunkley nearly did, and Jones got 80. And Lamb is still top run scorer

Durham return to One Day Cup action with 15 in contention to take on Lancashire Thunder - Durham Cricket

No Filer in the Durham squad. Not surprising as the most likely players to be rested are the fast bowlers.

I do hope the cricketing gods allow the “big 2” to meet in the final as that should be quite a spectacle. Is the new India ready to throw off the chokers’ yoke?!

Agreed: England are currently a distant 3rd in the pecking order to a rapidly improving India with home advantage & the ever-brilliant convicts. I’d just be happy if England give one or the other a half-decent game in a semi-final

Sadly in this day and age that applies to almost every branch of the media in almost every sport (& of course the news as well). “Good news doesn’t sell” as humans have a negativity bias that prefers to click on sensationalist negativity

Or put another way: India were consistently good in all the T20s but England were inconsistent, (just) better in 2 but woeful in 3. Assuming the same pattern repeats itself, I expect England to win 1 easily when they perform & throw the other 2 away!

Such a shame you’ve had to follow the West Indies lead in selling your soul to the devil! 😈

It’s not that the England fielders lack the skills to take world class catches, it’s that they lack the confidence to do so when under international pressure

But after the Ashes surely the media are now allowed to demand the person they want to interview who is obliged to appear? 😈

Unfortunately statistics aren’t all that conclusive for WKs, otherwise Southby’s records (most dismissals in both the 100 & CE Cup, most dismissals in a single 100 game, most stumpings in a CE Cup game) might mean something

12.07.2025 11:29 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Until there is a foolproof empirical way to measure “better” then it almost entirely a subjective opinion. I think most people agree that Jones is #1 (since Taylor retired). There are some spectacular reels of Southby’s dismissals but there are several candidates for #2 who you could do the same for

Although interestingly Lottie has won everything in English domestic cricket (Vipers & Brave) with just a specialist WK (Rudd & Southby). Maybe she might be prepared to risk going against the accepted world-view… or maybe not as an international coach 🤷‍♂️

You’ll never persuade Jack (despite the evidence 😉) but personally I’d agree with you. In fact I’m almost a Brave fan after she almost single-handedly won the 100 for them as a non-batting WK!

Opening with Elyse Perry for Hampshire (in the absence of Bouchier) says a lot about where her batting has got to. And her keeping is up there with Jones & Threlkeld

I think you’re remembering the Southby of previous seasons. Her batting progression over the winter has been remarkable:

How come she’s only played 4 domestic games for Essex all season if she’s better for England than Freya Kemp?

Maybe also helped by free tickets for All Stars? It looked like there was some sort of on-pitch thing between games?

It’s almost as daft as asking an experienced captain to take on a national side when they don’t have any international playing experience!

Top run scorer in the Blast, averaging 62. Must be something happening under the England helmet…! 🤔
