I think for me it's specifically about the trans community, but I would be interested to see if someone takes the question a different way and what that response would be, for better or worse.

09.03.2026 23:45 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0And just because I like talking on this topic, I'm not sure of many other American cities that would reasonably compare. Like, I hear good things about Seattle as well but also similar criticisms to Portland. Maybe some California cities? I also know some states have good protections, but am
09.03.2026 23:45 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Thanks for your feedback on this little project! Hopefully it will be at least somewhat gainful for others!
09.03.2026 23:42 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Likely, but part of this is to also judge how much time/energy these campaigns will put into their answers for what amounts to a random ass person, who they may or may not have personal feelings towards, emailing them a list.
09.03.2026 23:42 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0And that statistically I believe we are a destination city for people fleeing other states for trans or sexuality related reasons. In terms of my own experiences, Portland seems to generally have a mixed reputation across communities, especially intersectionally with the BIPOC community.
09.03.2026 23:40 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0In my own mind it's based off the two factors of that we advertise as being a good place for trans people. Like it's hard to imagine many other cities having their travel agency type thing (travel Portland) be like "here's where you can get a binder fitting for your trans child while visiting!"

Well I think the issue is with that you can say yes while saying that every employee needs to fit the behaviors of their position or something like that.
I also am trying to leave it as neutral as I'm possible of being to encourage people to answer it.
It feels like a bad 90s comics list of things that annoy them.
09.03.2026 23:31 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I think that's just too easy of a "yes" answer with no follow up substance
09.03.2026 23:30 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0Also, now I have there are no cats in America stuck in my head. And I can only remember "and the streets are paved with cheese!"
09.03.2026 23:29 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Yeah, it's one of those things where I could definitely get into how the way we portray ourselves/are portrayed doesn't match reality, but I thought this was the best way to get at "Portland is supposed!!! to be good for queer and trans folks so what are you going to do to make sure it is!?"

09.03.2026 23:26 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0This was my attempt to sus out if the candidates priority is going to be cars or something like public transit/bikes (or God forbid they go with Uber or something) so I think I want a top 1 kind of answer?
09.03.2026 23:20 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I might want to try a new phrasing then. My original one didn't have the local laws aspect but I thought it might be helpful, but I kind of want to try and keep it as a singular question
09.03.2026 23:19 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0It's one of those things where I'd for sure personally have follow up questions but trying to keep it kind of broad to solicit more open ended answers.

I would like to think that's covered by the question about their proposals for it, but maybe not?
I worry that the CEI thing could be too narrow but maybe that's my personal unfamiliarity with it?
Crying in public is bad. Wearing shirts with slogans I don't like is bad. Singing in public is bad. Taking too long to go to the bathroom is bad. Eating food that looks gross in public is bad.
Right?
it's so fucked up how the scariest thing for cis people regarding transness is they might not be able to tell, they might be nicer or hornier to the freaks than they want to be and that's unacceptable

Double question in it but how does this sound?
What responsibility does the city have to prepare its residents for and combat climate change? Do you have any proposals to utilize the Portland Clean Energy Fund to do so?
I'm wondering if that could be combined with a PCEF question without making it too vague?
